A Song For You Lyrics

Oh my land is like a wild goose
Wanders all around everywhere
Trembles and it shakes till every tree is loose
It rolls the meadows and it rolls the nails
So take me down to your dance floor
And I wont mind the people when they stare
Paint a different color on your front door
And tomorrow we will still be there

Jesus built a ship to sing a song to
It sails the rivers and it sails the tide
Some of my friends don't know who they belong to
Some can't get a single thing to work inside
So take me down to your dance floor
And I wont mind the people when they stare
Paint a different color on your front door
And tomorrow we will still be there

I loved you every day and now I'm leaving
And I can see the sorrow in your eyes
I hope you know a lot more than you're believing
Just so the sun don't hurt ou when you cry
So take me down to your dance floor
And I wont mind the people when they stare
Paint a different color on your front door
And tomorrow we will still be there
And tomorrow we will still be there

After watching Grand Theft Parsons, with tears streaming down my face the whole time. I found this song, and truly listened to it. I lost a very close person to me like in the movie. It still feels like I have been punched in the stomach whenever I think of him. This song truly is beautiful.

One of the greatest alt. country tunes ever penned. I just find the song to mean that nomatter how bad today is we still live in a beautiful world. Cliched' theme, but far from ordinary way to deliver it.

yes. this is the song that makes me believe if he had lived a natural life span we'd think he was as good as Dylan.

Makes me wonder if Bob would cover a Parsons song, that would be a moving tribute. I don't think he did to my knowledge.

Dylan has never covered any of Gram's material. Although he did say in the late sixties and early seventies that the Burrito Brothers were his favorite band. I'm sure he's familiar with Gram's solo stuff. You should listen to the new album that got released this summer. There's a one minute or so track that Gram talks about what this song means. I'd write it down but each of you will be much happier if you find out for yourself and go by the boxed set. It's called "The Complete Reprise Sessions" and can be found at Best Buy.

I love this song. My favorite version, however, is by Jason Boland & The Stragglers on the Live @ Billy Bob's CD. If you like this song check out that version.

In the 22 seconds of The Story Behind "A Song for You"? Gram says, “A song for you is really a love song. Having to do with an area sort of like the one, he came from in the south, sort of a swamp area, and a somebody who can’t stick around to long. It’s ah, that’s putting it very simply.”

Composers bring to the surface music and lyrics to get the point across for deeper flowing ideas. Thoughts jump around like a wild goose. They wander all around dropping everywhere. They tremble and shake till every idea is loose. They roll the meadows and they roll your hills.

When you relax your mind, take it down to its floor. You won’t mind the people when they stare at you. You feel you are someone else during the trip but tomorrow you will still be pretty much the same.

Jesus built a ship to sing a song to. It sails the rivers and it sails the tides of your mind. Some of my friends don't know who they are. Some can't get a single thing to work inside.

You have loved who you are, but as you grow you see your self changing. All things must pass. I can see your sorrow, but your inner self your DNA knows a lot more than they have been teaching. Accept, but don’t be blinded by your light. So, for sure a "song for you," is really a love song. Having to do with an area sort of like your mind, where thoughts about who you are can’t stick around to long.
