Rock 'n' Roll Star Lyrics
I live my life in the city
There's no easy way out
The day's moving just too fast for me
I need some time in the sunshine
I've gotta slow it right down
The day's moving just too fast for me
I live my life for the stars that shine
People say it's just a waste of time
When they said I should feed my head
That to me was just a day in bed
I'll take my car and drive real far
You're not concerned about the way we are
In my mind my dreams are real
Now you're concerned about the way I feel
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
I live my life in the city
There's no easy way out
The day's moving just too fast for me
I need some time in the sunshine
I've gotta slow it right down
The day's moving just too fast for me
I live my life for the stars that shine
People say it's just a waste of time
When they said I should feed my head
Well, that to me was just a day in bed
I'll take my car and drive real far
You're not concerned about the way we are
In my mind my dreams are real
Now you're concerned about the way I feel
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
You're not down with who I am
Look at you now, you're all in my hands
Tonight
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll
It's just rock 'n' roll

This isn't a retrospective look at their lives pre-superstar millionaires. It was written in the first Definitley Maybe sessions along with Slide Away, they sang it at small gigs when they wern't famous and that's why Noel loves it.
It was so unbelievabley cocky.
It's about not being a rock and roll star, but going out and acting/feeling like you are anyway, fuck it.
Oasis = untouchable.
What a choon.
What a way to say "hello, were Oasis" First song on the first album and right at the end the lyrics that say it all "You're not down with who I am Look at you now, you're all in my hands Tonight"
yea, if this song doesnt get you dreaming of leaving your rather normal life for rock superstardom, well then you shouldnt be reading Oasis comments anyway, i guess. this album is definitely one of my favorites.
noel said - " “Rock’n’Roll Star” is the whole manifesto of the band. I’ve never wanted to say anything else in a tune. We’re going to be rock stars, and even if we don’t, even if we’re just playing the fucking Boardwalk the rest of our lives, we’re going to act like fucking rock stars. When we started it, my ambitions were to have a jet, a monkey, a house in Ibiza. Did I ever get a monkey? I’ve got Liam. He’s the only monkey I’ll ever need. I wrote “Rock’n’Roll Star” when I was on the dole. I wouldn’t have put my fucking council flat on it, but we knew we were the best thing that was up and coming at that moment. When we got signed, McGee wasn’t saying anything that I didn’t already know myself. We played it at the three or four gigs we played at the Boardwalk before we were signed and there would be about ten people by the end singing “Tonight I’m a rock’n’roll star” and the staff would all be sniggering"
To me this is the ultimate wannabee anthem, "I'm a rock star whether you say so or not"
This song first made me want to be a rock star. Thats what oasis are all about.
The meaning of this song seems pretty clear to me, it was the first track on Oasis' first album. To all the people who didn't care about Liam and Noel before they're saying, now you do care because we've made it and we're famous. There's also reference to people who'd told them it was stupid to persue a career in music. Telling them all the work had paid off and they'd left their "lives in the city" behind.
And God said, let there be Oasis. Liam and Noel swaggered into existence. They were rock 'n' roll stars. Yea, they were cocky, brilliant superstars. And the Lord saw that it was good. Nay, it was RAD.
Rock N' Roll Star- "I said everything I ever wanted to say in Rock N'Roll Star."
First song off the first album. This kicked something off inside. All great albums must start with a great song, and this didnt disapoint.
Why aren't there more comments on this song?
