You hate, you scream, you swear
And still you never reach him
You curse, you try to scare
But you can never teach him
It's a dead end street
They tie your hands and tie your feet
And the street is narrow
A nowhere lane
A nowhere train for Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
You know they're gonna get you
You try to break away
But they will never let you
It's a dead end street
They tie your hands and tie your feet
And the street is narrow
A nowhere lane
A nowhere train for Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
You're like a goldfish in a bowl
Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
They have your mind, they'll take your soul
You come, you stay, you go
It really doesn't matter
You've done it all before
By now they'll know the pattern
It's a dead end street
They tie your hands and tie your feet
And the street is narrow
A nowhere lane
A nowhere train for Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
You're like a goldfish in a bowl
Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
They have your mind, they'll take your soul
Now that you're gone, you know they're gonna get you
Now that you're gone, you know they'll never let you
It's a dead end street
They tie your hands and tie your feet
And the street is narrow
A nowhere lane
A nowhere train for Elaine, Elaine, Elaine
You're like a goldfish in a bowl

Ok...I like this song because my name is Elaine! Yeah, I know, it's a pretty sad reason to like a song but heck, I can pretend that Abba are singing about me! (JOKE! I do NOT actually do that!...when sober, that is)
Yay for songs with my name in them!! ;)
yay!! go elaines!! dont we just rock? =P ive never heard this song =S Och well, it has Elaine in it so ... =D xxx
Yay, us Elaines rule! Lol, okay, my name's Alex, was just making fun of you guys a bit ^~
This song clearly shows someone tied trying to escape, I've hears many interpretations, mine is the following: Elaine's someone in a rough situation where people use her, possibly abuse her ( might be a wife with her husband or something along those lines) trying to run away. The whole song with the coming and going of tones and words reflects a useless chase, where Elaine's trapped and has no escape, nowhere to go, a desperate situation. Eh, kind of obvious, but still~
alexsakura, this song is not THAT obvious. As far as I understand, they sing about pop and rock stars being followed or even pursued by the fans. A star cannot quarrel with his or her spouse and just go out for a walk to come to his or her senses. Because the fans are waiting ready to tear this star to small pieces and keep them as souvenirs...
Im a Elaine, too! lol who doesnt love to pretend a song is about them? I sure do! I can relate to the song very much.
I'm not an Elaine, but this song rocks! I love ABBA!
