They came flying from far away, now I'm under their spell
I love hearing the stories that they tell
They've seen places beyond my land and they've found new horizons
They speak strangely but I understand
And I dream I'm an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please
As all good friends we talk all night, and we fly wing to wing
I have questions and they know everything
There's no limit to what I feel, we climb higher and higher
Am I dreaming or is it all real?
Is it true I'm an eagle?
Is it true I can spread my wings?
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
(I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
(What a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please
And I dream I'm an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
(I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
(What a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky

I think this song is about, having the desire to travel, wanting to wander after talking to people who have been all around the world and being inspired to do so. "Is it true I'm an eagle? Is it true I can spread my wings?" it's like before talking to these people they didn't know they could see everything in the world, like they were led to believe that they couldn't go outside their own town. "As all good friends we talk all night, and we fly wing to wing I have questions and they know everything" indicated the travelers.
I love this song so much, that is my thoughts on the song, but personally i want the song to be about escaping from your current situation...however dull it may be. But i think what i said before is the meaning.
I love this song! Its one of two I'd like played at my funeral! Beautiful and dreamlike! It takes me away to other places. Tc
@TangoCharlie I’ve just read your comment. My sister died in 1978 at the age of 24 years old after a tearful fight with leukemia. My father didn’t speak any English, but for some reason he knew exactly’ that this was the one and only right song for my sister. The words gave him the perception/illusion that my sister was in a different world, where she had to adjust, but nature around her was in peace. She was done fighting and could see all little earthly things in perspective. I wish you, Tangocharlie, a long and healthy life

I know there are those out there who may poo-poo Abba's artistical or philosopical relevance, but I have to say this song is very inspirational. It's very rare to find people in life who really just touch your life and get you thinking about those things you have only (up 'til you met them) kept to yourself. Maybe you are the kind of person who feels surrounded by people who zero-charisma and unenlightened, and you feel a need to connect with people who validate your belief that the blahze and obvious existence surrounding you is actually deeper than it appears. No, I'm not stoned, BTW. Since I was a small child, I believed in something more. Call it a vision, call it even a hallucination. Oh, hell, just humor me if you will.

God bless you and may you fly with the eagles !

I think it's about an eagle. And all of the videos on Youtube-have an eagle on them.
Success. I think it's about the moment when a band who's very, very good at crafting pop hits, becomes a total superstar act. The strong emotional high of success ('There's no limit to what I feel'), of having the world at your feet, taking stock of massive success. With a dash of metaphor, natch. 'They speak strangely but I understand' - maybe after success of Australian tour. And, like good melancholy Swedes, pinching themselves: 'Am I dreaming or is it all real?'. Such a great, atmospheric song...
i agree to some extent with the comments by FELICITY
I think this song is just about someone who is looking up to their peers, and relating it to being like a bird flying with other birds who are wiser and inspire them.
I listened to the original "The Album" record and this song is on the first one. I noticed that there's a short instrumental that was for some reason removed from the version I have on CD, which is More ABBA Gold. I don't know why they removed it...I like it!

My favorite verse in any ABBA song.
