There's a steel train comin' through
I would take it if I could
And I would not lie to you
Because Sunday morning soon will come
When things would be much easier to say
Upon the microphone like a boss DJ
When I would walk upon the sea like it was dry land
The boss DJ ain't nothin' but a man
No trouble no fuss
I know why
It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice
It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice
When I'm spendin' all of my time
But it's just stones and sticks
Cause on the microphone is where I go to get my fix
Just let the lovin' take ahold
Cause it will if you let it
A funky, not a junky
But I know where to get it
No trouble no fuss
I know why
It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice
It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice
Oo-we girl, oo-we girl
There really ain't no time to waste
Really ain't no time to hate
Ain't got no time to waste
Time to hate
Really ain't time to make the time go away
So mister DJ don't change the music
I wanna know
Are you feelin' the same way too?
I wanna rock with you girl, oo-girl
Don't stop
I would take it if I could
And I would not lie to you
Because Sunday morning soon will come
When things would be much easier to say
Upon the microphone like a boss DJ
When I would walk upon the sea like it was dry land
The boss DJ ain't nothin' but a man
No trouble no fuss

The main theme to this wonderful song is that Brad is an addict, but despite this his girl still loves him. Here's my full interpretation: There's a steel train comin' through, I would take it if I can. ::I would do the drugs if i could (steel train=heroin needle):: And I would not lie to you because Sunday morning soon will come when things would be much easier to say ::He's not gonna lie to his girl that hes done the drugs, but he can explain himself the next morning when hes not messed up anymore:: upon the microphone like a boss DJ ::things are also easier to say on the microphone…when hes singing:: and I wont walk upon the sea like it was dry land. The boss DJ ain't nothin' but a man. ::hes not gonna lie when he sings...hes only a man (too weak to control his addiction):: No trouble no fuss, .. I know why. ::He doesn't worry tho because she loves him:: It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice. It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice. ::The song might as well be the words I love you...its really the feeling of love...its so nice:: Rumors flyin all over town, but it's just stones and sticks. ::people talk about him but he doesn't care:: 'Cause on the microphone is where I get my fix. ::cause he gets his fix on the microphone...and hes sticking with that story:: Let the lovin' take ahold of me, 'cause it will if you let it. I'm funky, not a junky, but I know where to get it. ::He can get drugs if he wants them..but he refuses to be called a junky:: No trouble no fuss, .. I know why. It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice. It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice. Mr. DJ, Don't stop the music...I wanna know, are you feeling the same way too? ::he doesnt wanna stop the love he's feeling, as if its a DJ playing a song..and he wants to know if she feels the same way too:: I wanna rock with you girl, oo-girl. Oo-we girl, oo-we girl There really ain't no time to waste, really ain't no time to hate. Ain't got no time to waste, time to hate. Really ain't time to let the time go away. ::take advantage of your time here...there isn't any to waste:: Cause It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice. It's so nice, I wanna hear the same song twice. Oo-we girl, oo-we girl now days the songs on the radio all drive me crazy ::this love is driving him crazy:: dont stop dont stop dont stop dont stop cause its so nice....
I don't know what the song means...but Brad sounds so great when he sings it. he could sing complete gibberish (sometimes he did) and he'd sound lovely!!
the lyrics wrong it says:
When I'm spendin' all of my time But it's just stones and sticks
it should be:
Rumours spreading all over my town But it's just stones and sticks
Your ex is wrong, what this song is about is heroin. Brad started taking the drug because he was having trouble getting inspired, and he heard musisians say that it helped them write songs. He's saying that while he's on dope he can write, he can sing, and he feels like he can do anything, even walk on water. A lot of the things he mentions in this song are about heroin. The most prominate line is, "A Funky not a junkie, but I know where to get it." I was just singing along today too "Robin the Hood," a CD by them I haven't heard in a while, and not since I became more awear of the terms and effects of heroin. When I heard that line, I started the song over again, suddenly the lyrics made more sence to me. Its not about a DJ, its about how he feels on heroin. He feels like he can do anything, because "its so nice."
Love this song.
im thinking you are mostly wrong. yes this song was about the needle but it was also mainly about reaching a certain state of karma of heaven with god as a dj spinning the tunes of life and preaching his words of not wasting your time and trying not to repeat things over and over in life, experiance new things, dont play the same song twice. amazing tune if i must say so myself Bradley James RIP
this is such a beautiful song. i think it's a love song about music, saying the only place you feel happy is playing music.
Just let the lovin' take ahold Cause it will if you let it A funky, not a junky But I know where to get it
This is probably my favorite Sublime song. I never get tired of it. It's beautiful.
Robbin' the hood is a genius album. I love every song on it including this beautiful song.
Boss DJ is basically Bradley telling the world that yeah, he may be addicted to heroin, but that's not who he is. He's a musician, and that's what's really important to him, not the drugs.
It's not about him being weak. He wasn't. It's not about being in love with heroin. He wasn't.
It's about him being a mistake making human being, and also about one of the many things that made Bradley happy... Music, in this case.
