Flower Lyrics

Turn the ugly light off, God
Wanna feel the night
Every day it shines down on me
Don't you think that I see
Don't you think that I see
What it's all about

Hard to look the other way
While the world passes me by
And everyone is trying to bum me out

It's a pretty big world, God
And I am awful small
Every day it rains down on me
Flower in a hailstorm
Flower in a hailstorm
Livin' for the drought

I could throw it back again
But then I'd play their game
Everyone is trying to bum me out

When I came into this world they slapped me
And every day since then I'm slapped again
Tomorrow's king, an unsightly coward
You see, I know I'm going to win

Turn the ugly light off, God
Don't wanna see my face
Every day it will betray me
Don't you think that I know
Don't you think that I know
What they're talking about

If they step on me tonight
they're gonna pay someday
Everyone is trying to bum me out

Mmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmmmm

i agree with zeeboi. only, i think E tries to overcome the general hostility and rise above; stretch himself toward the sun as flowers do, but still gets stomped right back down.

he's a frustrated flower as well!

Angst. A lot of it too. E sees himself as a flower, timid and frail that everyone steps on.

i don't think this song's about jesus. i think E makes it pretty clear in "all in a day's work" that he's not religious. i love this song. it sounds so depressing to start with, and almost suicidal, but gets kind of optimistic towards the end. makes me smile every time.

One of their best songs, if not the best.

I think the song is a take on the life of Jesus. Specifically, in the garden of Gethsemane.

"Tomorrow's king, an unsightly coward You see, I know I'm going to win"

Plus a digital choir is singing throughout the song.

I was almost positive "tomorrow's king" referred to the singer, or is that what you're trying to say? :/

And having a choir in songs doesn't always transform them into religious songs, you silly metal. :p I think the choir is in this song because of the little mini-story in the lyrics. You know, hero faces difficulty and rises above sort of thing.

I agree with stegemreeali; he even starts to hum at the end. ^_^
