Once I had a friend that I could count on
So I thought
Well so it seemed
But times of need are not enough
To prove your friendship to me now
Once I saw a face that I believed in
But a mask was all there was
So who wears the masks and who wears the faces
Well I guess I'll never know

But as I stand here alone in a room full of people
With nothing to say
Beer on their minds, and smoke in the air
Call them feiends but they just don't care

Friend for life
Such shallow words for broken minds
Show me a friend for life
Cause I'll be waiting for that day to arrive
When I'll feel alive
I'll be waiting for that day

Once I found a love I had to know
Now we might know each other just too well
Cause when we're together we just can't get enough
Or is it we just can't get what we want
Once I saw a dream, I had to chase it
Dreams quickly turn to reality
Who's at fault in this game of yours and mine
Well I guess I'll never know

But as I sit here alone
Think of the girl who came softly inside me
The look in her eyes, the smell of her hair
Call her my own but is she really there?

Love for life
Such noble words for noble minds
Show me a love for life
Cause I'll be waiting for that day to arrive
When I'll feel alive
I'll be waiting for that day

Once I had a friend that I could count
Times of need are not enough
Once I found a love I had to know
Now we might know each other just too well
Once I saw a dream I had to chase
Dreams quickly turn to reality
Now let me close my eyes
Because I don't want to see anything anymore

I think it's about a guy who can't get a friend, and everyone looks down on him....

I think that this song is basically about how you get tired of things not going your way. I mean think about it. How many people can you really call "friends"? Not to sound depressing or anything but it's a common misconception of who are friends and who are acquaintances.

Then he goes and talks about how love can sometimes go wrong. Sometimes you meet someone that you really think that would be good for you, or maybe you just want to get to know them better, but you end up dating them for a while and realize that things go wrong because they become almost predictable.

Then he talks about dreams becoming reality. Sometimes, what you dream about and what you really wish for in life can turn out to be some of the worst things possible.

That is atleast how I interpreted it. I could be wrong though.

This song is basically about crappy things that can happen in life, from broken hearts to reality gone wrong to messed up friendships. This song can help you through any hard time, in addition its ending fits so perfectly; "close my eyes 'cause I don't want to see anything anymore"--possibly about dying, after you've experienced a lot in your life, whether it be negative things referenced in this song, or positive things. It's an amazing song, and really beautiful; it's my favorite Offspring song.

This song is very true, EVERY thing is transitory in this world, even things that really should not like friendship or love, sad song but also a sad truth.

This song kicks ass like every other song by the Offspring! The Offspring rule! I can't wait for their new album.

    Song Meaning

It's basically about how people change over time and those who were once your closest friends or signifigant other change over time and become different people and or complete strangers. Or when you really get to know some one they turn out to be someone compltly different.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
