No teacher to follow no prophet to tell me how
But I know what I want I know what I want now.
Like water it rushes
it's the last thing you see when you close your eyes
it's the one place you want to be.
But if it doesn't brush my shoulder and it doesn't beat my heart
that's not what I want that's not where I will start.
I never kissed somebody so that they would break my heart
that's not what I want.
If you don't know what you're missing
cause you don't know where to start,
follow your wishing heart.
I was restless, X4
I just want this to be good, X2
But you don't understand,
You don't understand me, and I want to be understood.
But if it doesn't brush my shoulder,
And it doesn't beat my heart,
That's not what I want - no, that's not where I will start.
I never kissed somebody so that they would break my heart,
That's not what I want.
If we all leap before we crawl, we might fall,
And it's not always candy spun from head to heart,
And it's not always meant to be,
And it's not always up to me.
But if it doesn't brush my shoulders, and it doesn't beat my heart.
That's not what I want, that's not where I will start.
I never kissed somebody so that they would break my heart,
That's not what I want.
If you don't know what you're missing,
'Cause you don't know where to start,
You don't know what you're missing
Follow your wishing heart.

Honestly this is a great song by an artist that's highly overlooked...or atleast i think so It totally follows my belief of always "following my heart"

here here Starz, $10 says 90% of female Dave Matthews fans would love Lisa Loeb ... anyways on to the song.

It's about finally realizing what you want out of life and going for it regaurdless of anything.

Lisa recognises that there may be some bumps in the road "If we all leap before we crawl we might fall, and it's not always candy spun from head to heart." But she goes right back into saying that these are the things she wants and she's going to get them.

I love this whole song, but this line "And it's not always meant to be, And it's not always up to me."

I love the way the basic premise is to go for it, but keep your standards.. Accept when it's not good, and move on, keep the optimism.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
