Blow 'Em Off Lyrics
When you said alright
I thought you meant alright
When you said that's fine
I thought you meant that's fine
I guess some standards don't always apply
When the kid goes home
He always goes alone
He hides in the machine
And always stays fourteen
Well there's really nothing wrong with the plan
He goes to sleep at night and holds his own hand
It's inconceivable there could be an end
Who brings you back when you're gone, gone, gone
Who keeps saying your prayers when you blow 'em off
Who keeps alive the concept of mom
Who cares when they're really scared
When you're really scared
When you said alright
I thought you meant alright
When you said that's fine
I thought you meant that's fine
Well there is the answer on the tip of my tongue
There's the bubble on the face of the moon
There's the chamber that should always be full
I thought you meant alright
When you said that's fine
I thought you meant that's fine
I guess some standards don't always apply
He always goes alone
He hides in the machine
And always stays fourteen
Well there's really nothing wrong with the plan
He goes to sleep at night and holds his own hand
It's inconceivable there could be an end
Who keeps saying your prayers when you blow 'em off
Who keeps alive the concept of mom
Who cares when they're really scared
When you're really scared
I thought you meant alright
When you said that's fine
I thought you meant that's fine
Well there is the answer on the tip of my tongue
There's the bubble on the face of the moon
There's the chamber that should always be full

this has been here 5 yrs + and no comments? this is a rockin track from the gods...what a trip . the lyrics i think describe just a lonely kid, who is lost and probably pretty naive
of course tossed in with the craziness of the sounds, the lyrics dont seem like much
The song is awesome, the lyrics kinda' vague.
There's obviously the loner, the fourteen year old boy who has "blown 'em off", he has virtually no-one, perhaps he sits in front of his "machine"/computer all day? He has noone to care when he get's scared, and he obviously gets scared one day. He has someone who cares, probably family/parents. "When you said alright / I thought you meant alright". But he "blows them off" rather than to confess his own problems and loneliness.
I can imagine this kid goes along and try to kill himself or something, because the person caring, asking the questions that are answered with "alright" at some point suddenly realize that the boy didn't really mean "alright" at all.
It's about a kid lying in bed at night when he realizes that at some point he like everyone else in the world is gonna die.
For discussions sake, I don't think that "the kid" is necessarily fourteen. It might just represent that kind of teenage mentallity too. "The Machine" might reference a computer, or it could represent the grind of today's lifestyle. Lonliness is evident, but I'm not sure if its talking about the prayers being blown off or somebody being blown off. Its all definately vague, I'd really like to know the meaning behind what was written. One can piece together meanings for themselves in parts of this song, but I myself can't really make it come together as a whole. Monster Magnet is awesome, hopefully we can get some people to add their input!
i really have no clue for this song, maybe a lonely person who had noone he can really connect with, like when he goes to sleep at night and hold his own hand, there noone there to hold it for him,and as for the he hides in a machine and always stays 14 line, maybe that could be yet another comic book reference machine being like time machine , lost in a world of comics, the ones he used to read as a kid say and altough he has noone like that he still sorts people out, helps them and makes them feel better from the lines, who brings u back when ur gone gone gone/who keeps sayin ur prays when uve blown em off,a strong lone wolf kinda guy- well theres really nothing wrong with the plan. and yeah people like that always say there alright when there not-i thought u ment alright/i guess some standards dont always apply
I've always thought of this as Dave's song about his own "inner child" sort of. He's had a lot of trouble with his own mind after all from what I've read. I think this song is just a general song about being far down and feeling so afraid because nobody can help you.
i know what u mean by the inner child bit man, however i dont think its that its cus nobody can help u its just made that way by the main character if u will,he just blows em off, like sayin yeah thats fine, whatever . like not really payin attemtion but the results of this person being that way have the adverse effect,i thought u meant thats fine
