Samson, the strength
That's in, your arms
Oh to be, your stunning
Bride
Samson, your hair
Glistening, like sun
Oh would, that it
Were mine
Samson, your hair
That's in, my hands
I'll keep it safe
You're mine, you're mine
He said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe, Delilah my babe
Said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe, Delilah my babe
Said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe
You lied in my face
You cut off my hair
You lied in my bed
Samson, your stay
With your 'lilah
I'll hold you in
My hands
Yeah
Your hair
Restrain
My man
My man
He said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe, Delilah my babe
Said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe, Delilah my babe
He said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe, Delilah my babe
Said wait, said wait
Delilah my babe
You lied in my face
You cut off my hair
You lied in my bed
obvious reference to the whole samson and delilah thing. in a way it's sort of turning the whole "power to the she-ple" thing that she seems to be supporting so heavily. in this case the woman is portrayed, forgive the bluntness, as the enemy.
also delilah's motives seem to be more desire for samson and to have him as hers rather than hate, which I think is an interesting twist.
When samson discovers what delilah's done, he chucks a shit and says some pretty nasty stuff. Its interesting to get both views.
PJ Harvey has denied feminism... she doesn't believe gender should make a difference in terms of music. I agree with amberbreath-- it seems she cuts his hair off not as an expression of hatred, but of wanting to have Sampson as hers and only hers.
I guess you can understand it as if she wanted him to be only hers, or as if she wanted to kill his ego, his male power, domination. I think the other meaning is more plausible.
