Electric Light Lyrics

The beauty of her, under electric light
The beauty of her, under electric light
Tears my heart out every time
Dawn there waiting, right outside
Dawn there waiting, right outside
She tears my heart out every time
Siren rising across the sky
Sirens rising across the sky
Tears my heart out every time

i love this song. it has such a creepy feel to it. it seems like it's about prostitution; electric light could be the light omitting from a streetlamp. she looks beautiful, but it's tears the narrator's heart out because he job is so dangerous/immoral/etc. dawn could either mean a woman named dawn, waiting outside, or the dawn itself, ready to reclaim the girl. sirens are alluring and cause harm, saying that, perhaps, the dawn brings an alluring danger?

it, not it's; her, not he.

I think the girl in the song is being stalked and is eventually murdered ("sirens rising").

I think the 'sirens' might refer to Greek mythology, since the backing vocal that comes in with this line sounds like I imagine these so-called sirens would sound. They are described as seductresses who lured men to their island with their singing, which could very well fit with the theme of prostitution that bruise violet mentioned. Prostitutes standing on the corners of streets and luring men towards them with their looks/clothing.

Could also be the sirens of police cars/ambulances, though.
