Ty Cobb Lyrics
I'm sittin' in a magic hat
With smoke and mirrors
And tire rubber fires
Watch me disappear
What made it slow you down
Sucking on a ball and chain
Another motherfucker goes down the drain
Hard headed fuck you all
Just add it up to the hod rod death toll
Sick in the head sick in the mouth
And I can't hear a word you say
Not a bit, and I don't give a shit
I got the glass, I got the steel
I got the love to hate
All I need is your head on a stake
Hard headed fuck you all
Just add it on the hot rod death toll
With smoke and mirrors
And tire rubber fires
Watch me disappear
What made it slow you down
Sucking on a ball and chain
Another motherfucker goes down the drain
Hard headed fuck you all
Just add it up to the hod rod death toll
And I can't hear a word you say
Not a bit, and I don't give a shit
I got the glass, I got the steel
I got the love to hate
All I need is your head on a stake
Hard headed fuck you all
Just add it on the hot rod death toll

song on the legendary ty cobb who introduced psychological warfare into baseball; it was his trick to maddog the other players, make them lose their cool, get them nervous or irate them to boiling point, so they'd screw up. he could get very personal in doing this, coz he took baseball so seriously that he didn't mind whether he made enemies for life with his 'special technique'; hence "I got the love to hate". he was a baseball wizard working the illusions of being an evil-psycho-killer relying on his intimidating method acting as well as on his actual ball-playing skills; hence "I'm sittin' in a magic hat with smoke and mirrors".
Was also a pretty racist and bitter guy. A lot of the old ballplayers probably were. He attacked a black groundskeeper over the condition of the left field grass and choked his wife when she tried to jump in and help her husband. He became extremely bitter when Babe Ruth entered the game (even though he was a great all around player, too) because it evolved into a game where hitting home runs became the spectacle. In anger he belted 4 home runs in one game then returned to playing small ball - bunting, stealing, etc. He never really did...

In anger he belted 4 home runs in one game then returned to playing small ball - bunting, stealing, etc. He never really did sharpen his spikes, he only let the other players think that for the sake of intimidating them. While outwardly an asshole, in his later years after the death of 2 sons he made many charitable contributions.
supposedly the original name for this song was "hot rod death toll," but someone (Ben?) suggested "Ty Cobb", because they're both short and nasty. great song....

ty cobb was a baseball player who once killed a man and was a great basestealer cause he would slide and kick the player trying to tag him in the leg or balls with his metal spikes that he kept very sharp. he was a hard headed fuck you all type of guy
AAAAAAAAHAHAH FUCK YOU ALL! yea. thats all i ahve to say here. cuz this song kicks ass!
Is that a mandolin or a banjo - either way, Soundgarden finished their career on a high, by being innovative enough to incorporate bluegrass and heavy metal. Great Band, Great last album, Great song!!!
@bkat004 pretty sure it's a mandolin from what I recall reading liner notes when I bought the cd years ago

i didn't like this song when i first bought this album but it was so damn catchy and i loved the intro ben does and it just hooks me in and the little kim intrumental bit that keeps repeating, its just so good and soundgarden have always had their funny songs, big dumb sex for example oh god all their funny songs are so catchy and well written. and what a brilliant name for a song.
oh and if ur interested they use a mandolin and a mandola
perfect title for the song.
