This pretty much sums up corny, generic, 80s pop metal in one song. Basic, catchy, "macho" riff, excessive use of chorus effects, double-tracked "high and low" vocals, simple guitar solo that fits the melody and rhythm like a glove, and verses that are laughably suggestive, but never quite say what they really mean.
A misunderstood and classic style parody that more people should hear.
me and my friend used to sing this all the time in school, and we had it so amazingly coordinated that teachers would even laugh their asses off at it... i would say one "fuck", he would say the next, then we would harmonize for the last "fuck you". soundgarden is best when experienced with good friends.
and i love that soundgarden can have such a sense of humor, a lot of people probably assume theyre this totally serious "grunge band" because most of their lyrics are about depression and isolation...louder than love has gotta be one of the funniest albums i own, with this, "power trip", "full on kevins mom", and then the reprise of "full on kevins mom". so perfect.
I find it incredibly ironic that a band like Guns 'n Roses would cover something like this, because Cornell wrote this as an attack on the cock-rock bands of the 1980s of which GNR was an integral part! Chris even said that the album title "Louder than Love" pokes fun at "heavy metal bravado." I also read that Kim Thayil said the band originally wanted to call it "Louder than Fuck." lol

It's a parody of glam metal rock songs that talk about sex metaphorically, so they come right out and say it. Unfortunately, musicians today (not really musicians) don't speak metaphorically at all, and it's not for the sake of a parody. They're for real.
