Grey Suits Lyrics

Even grey suits have their day
all the promises they made
all the bad words you can't say
you signed up now fake it
you signed up now make it
you signed up now make us proud
the best is yet to come
the best is yet to come
seeing how they break you be honest
you want it nothing else will do
it's never enough for you
it's never enough for you
it's never enough for you
and even grey suits have their way
all your friendships find their graves
in the lounge where you write
they are lost
and you are found
the weather's fair in the clouds
you signed up now make them proud
the best is yet to come
the best is yet to come
the best is when you're falling from your throne
yeah you bought it it's never enough for you
you bought it it's never enough for you
you bought it it's never enough for you
you bought it it's never enough for you
you bought it it's never enough for you
you bought it it's never enough for you
you bought it and you hold on

I know this probably isn't remotely what this song is about, but I always got a feel that it was referring to the Military. Most specifically the United State Military Academy at West Point. I think part, if not all, of the reason that I feel that was is I started listening to this album while I was at the Academy. But seriously, ever line can be directly related to the West Point experience.

That actually would make a lot of sense, especially with the lines: "all your friendships find their graves" and "you signed up now make us proud"

I think you nailed it actually... interesting as fuck!

The song will always be about overcoming adversity in my world... but looking at it from that perspective it completely makes sense as a lecture to a disillusioned young soldier.

Regardless, your interpretation is brilliant. Kudos!

This song confuses me...I like it, I just don't know what the hell it is talking about.

yeah, this song is confusing, but seems to be about a spoiled brat who habitually uses and screws people yet it means nothing to him / her as it would to most. then towards the end it seems to lead to a bit of a turn around where he / she may actually be feeling a bit of the hurt and regret that comes along naturally with using and screwing people over.

uhhh this confuses me too. butt it seems like someone got into trouble and now has to face the consequences?? higher expectations?? I dunno but they are some good lyrice "all your frindships find their graves"

I recall reading somewhere that the song was written about record executives (aka grey suits) who take an artist's soul and turn their creations into products with no regard to the want of the artist. The song is a warning to others not to make the same mistakes. The execs make these big promises they never plan to keep to lure the unsuspecting artist and then they become legally bound to conform.

Yeah you are right,it's pretty obvious that this song is about selling you're Music to a major lable and about becomming cocky and then falling from the self-made or media made "Throne" and it's about the need of getting more.

To me this song means tow things, only one of which i thought of myself. 1.This song is what dporqie talked about. 2.(I got this from my friend) The song is about christianity. When u listen closely it sounds like the singer says "even Christians have their days" If u look at it like religion it all fits together just as well as dporqie's idea. Lines like "u signed up now make us proud" "all the promises they made" or "The best is yet to come"

P.S. desensitized, he signed up for a contract or church

About 1:20 into this song there is the sound of a horn honking, that I swear to God almost got me thrown in jail for road rage on about 4 different occasions. I didn't realize it was in the song until i finally played the disc in my house. What a good burn. Sorry to you if your one of the peopel I flipped off.
