Merchandise Lyrics
when we have nothing left to give there will be no reason for us to live but when we have nothing left to lose you will have nothing left to use we owe you nothing you have no control merchandise keeps us in line common sense says it's by design what could a businessman ever want more than to have us sucking in his store we owe you nothing you have no control you are not what you own

i think everyone on here has forgotten that a lot of times punk and hardcore bands need merchandise just to have money to tour. if one of your favorite bands sells a t-shirt then yeah you should buy it.
Yep.
And just as a random fact, I'd like to point out that the ONLY merchandise that Fugazi produces are CDs. They dont make shirts or anything like that.
so is my "this is not a fugazi t-shirt" t-shirt an unauthorised (but very clever) one?
Yeah, this song is like a kick to Hot Topic's tiny scrotum. It's cool to make your own tees, just please don't sell them. Also add your own cool touches; the last thing any fan wants to see is fifty kids walking around with fifty of the same black and white stenciled t-shirts reading Fugazi. Back on topic, this song applies to just about any store you might see in the mall. All malls are the same, that's why malls aren't fun unless you're just messing around. Example Wet Seal (Most girls I know can't leave home with their gay 80's style leopard skin leggings from Wet Seal), JcPenny, Macy's, Old Navy, HOT TOPIC (Gah hate that place. That one dude from Twilight is all over that store. You like pull back a shirt and there he is...just staring at you.). The problem with these stores is that they rob kids of their individuality and create an army of drones. I guess wearing retardly tight skinny jeans (ball crushers) is cool? Like is it worth not being able to feel your nuts? Let's all wear leggings and straighten our hair! Guys too! We'll have a grand time being different by looking like everyone else! Merchandise sucks because it makes people walking billboards and they know it; they don't even care. They don't care that they're robbing people's imagination; all they know is that they're getting payed for it and that's all that counts. That's what this song is about. It can also apply to just about any company, especially the movie industry (Twilight anyone? People who never even read the books try to look and be like all the people in the movie.). You know how many dudes I see a day trying so hard just to be that one dude that looks like he got swine flu and is always staring? It's ridiculous.
a good song with a very good message. its kinda obvious of course, but basically its summed up with "you are not what you own" and just anti-business
yes, it is. fugazi never even copyrighted their name to prevent the temptation of producing other products
just gonna make my own fugazi shirts :P going to design and print bands shirts by me, and for me.
I'm creating an "Official Fugazi Merchandise" shirt.
Wouldn't it be kind of lame to create shirts or whatever of bands that have explicit stances against having merchandise? It's like, yeah, you obviously like the music, but do you understand what their message is?
If you sell them then yea definitely, but what's wrong with making shirts for yourself?
