Candles Lyrics

Take away,
These hands of darkness.
Reaching for my soul.
Now, the cold wind,
blows out my candles.
Feeling,
only fear,
without any hopr.

A thousand dark moons.
A thousand winters long.
A million fallen stars,
the candle burns in the womb.

We trie not to forget,
they live through us.
Slowly they die away at every candle's end

A thousand dark moons.
A thousand winters long.
A million fallen stars,
the candle burns in the womb.

We trie not to forget,
they live through us.
Slowly they die away at every candle's end

the song is all symbolic.

"Take away these dark hands reaching for my soul"

dark hands=death incarnate

"now, the cold wind, blows out my candles"

candles=spark of life

"feeling only fear without any hope"

she knows her time is up...

"a thousand dark moons A thousand winters long A million fallen stars the candle burns in the womb"

the chorus is speaking of life, the time we have on this planet measured in ways other then years. and th candle that burn within the womb is a baby, a future child that will live for the thousand winters.

"we try not to forget they live through us slowly they die away at every candles end"

everyone lives through their friends, family, ect. and it goes the other way too. so 'they live through us' means everyone in one's personal life. slowly they die one by one. considering that the candle means a 'spark of life' when the candle burns dry so does one's life.

so the song is simply about life and death. you live, you make friends, your friends die as do you. ]

still, it's a beatiful song to listen to...

I agree with In the mist. A candle as a metaphor for life. It's my fave WT song. Really awesome. I want people to play it at my funeral :P.

At first I reckoned the singing killed the pretty instrumental part. I mean, if you listen to it, there's the first harpsichord-sounding thing with the wind sounds, and then the bass comes in with the strings, and it sounds so good, and when Sharon den Adel starts singing it all kinda ruins the tingly sounds.. but you get used to it after a while... and it all sounds pretty. :) But yes, ithink it does mean the progression of life and then death thing. Actually, this was on my list of things to play at my funeral too. Wow, what a coincidence.
