For me, this song symbolizes the balance of a relationship. The Knife is symbolizes an emotional weapon for hurting your partner, which happens in every relationship. The chorus is the re-claim between being hurt (or to hurt) and the positive aspects..

it was inspired by a bizarre party on the tour bus. abe collects knives and everyone was dancing round the bus with a knife. it became a band joke because of how silly is was and then chino made up a fake scenario from it -

"I made up this fake scenario of some kind of underworld society of knives, people who just get off on these erotic fantasies," he says. "Or something like that. An 'Eyes Wide Shut' kind of thing." - Chino

When that woman starts singing it gives me gooseybumps!

Knifes are phallics symbols that play as images in our dreams, or heavy unconcious psychedelic use. I think the song has some reference to the act of a rape, hence the girl screaming in the bridge of the song. "Go get your knife, go get your knife, and lay down"

I was always hoping for some crazy weird meaning behind this song. But nope.

This song is about how drugs (meth in particular) are how Chino gets the feeling of a teenager cutting their wrist (this may be a reach) "all of the friends are on the block" I think this is talking about finding for meth which can make you "anemic". "Go get your knife and kiss me" explains how he is doing meth with his partner and they are dragging each other down in my opinion. Now cutting your wrist can also make you anemic which I feel like could be the reason why he says we are all anemic because we all have different ways to cope with hardships of life. His are drugs and other are cutting. Both of which can give you a floating sensation hence "I can float here forever".

This song is a very good one. it kinda is this life and eath type struggle to me to understand it. suicide with the one you love is kinda what i feel like saying but then also this kinda romeo juliet story behind maybe.
