Roll another blunt, yeah (ooh ooh ooh)
La la da da da da, la da da
La da da da, la da da da, la da da da

I was gonna clean my room until I got high
I was gonna get up and find the broom but then I got high
My room is still messed up and I know why (why, man?)
Yeah, hey
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

La da da da da da da

I was gonna go to class before I got high (come on, y'all)
(Check it out)
I coulda cheated and I coulda passed but I got high
I am taking it next semester and I know why (why, man?)
Yeah, hey
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

(Go to the next one, go to the next one, go to the next one)

I was gonna go to court before I got high
I was gonna pay my child support but then I got high (no, you wasn't)
They took my whole paycheck and I know why (why, man?)
Yeah, hey
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

La da da da da da

I wasn't gonna run from the cops but I was high
(I'm serious, man)
I was gonna pull right over and stop but I was high
Now I am a paraplegic, and I know why (why, man?)
Yeah, hey
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

La da da da da da

I was gonna make love to you but then I got high
I was gonna eat yo pussy, too, but then I got high
Now I'm jacking off and I know why (turn this shit off)
Yeah, hey
'Cause I got high (keep going)
Because I got high (ayy, do that over again)
Because I got high (come on, man, come on)

La da da da da da

I messed up my entire life because I got high
I lost my kids and wife because I got high (say what, say what, say what, say what)
Now I'm sleeping on the sidewalk and I know why (why, man?)
Yeah, hey
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

La da da da da da

I'ma stop singing this song because I'm high (present tense, baby, oh)
I'm singing this whole thing wrong because I'm high (bring it back, bring it back)
And if I don't sell one copy I'll know why (why, man?)
'Cause I'm high
'Cause I'm high
'Cause I'm high (are you really high though, man?)

La da da da da da

La da da da da da, la da da da
He really is high, man
Shoop shooby doo wop
Get jiggy wit it, skibbidy bee bop diddy do wah

    Song Meaning

Actually, this song is satiric. It is actually making FUN of people who get high. If you really read into it, specifically toward the end, "I messed up my entire life" "I lost my kids and my wife", he is saying DO NOT get high, these things could happen to you. "Sleeping on the sidewalk" because your addiction must be fed with whatever money you make. Had the writer not been high, maybe his life would have turned out better.

The meaning is quite clear actually. It's about how the person in the song messed up everything because they got high instead, humorous song but um yeah if you sit on your duff smoking pot this is what you'll be like.

    My Interpretation

This song speaks to the hungry hustler in all of us, who have vices that chain us down, and struggle with doing the right things over staying in our comfort zone. A man who's life is falling apart before him, can't even grasp the severity of his predicament because he's trapped in a humorous state of dilution.

No, you are the one who fucking sucks, and it's never gonna go to the negatives. However I give you and honestyormystery a -100 for contributing intelligent comments.

This song does not glorify smoking, it tries to denounce it. In an interview, Afroman said he wrote this list of things he was going to do, but never accomplished because he was high, and it turned into a song. So the next time you kick back and get ready to spark up, think about if there's anything more important you could be doing.

Papa Roacher 5k...you say "he just made the song for the sheer sake of making a song" and "this has no meaning or purpose", however, i'm sure that afroman made more money making this song than you will make in your entire lifetime...you're just jealous you didn't think of it first.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
