Summer on the Westhill Lyrics

From my seat I see the fields move by,
coulours strong- it's been a long, long time.
It's the first time I see summer on the Westhill.
I lean back and let my eyes just go
floating now where they want to float.
They seem to take to the horizon.
Now I know there is a world beyond
the small place I was coming from.
I feel at home here in the middle of nowhere.
I will never know the names
of these places that I travel through
to reach the coastline-
I've been told I will be there in time.

Please oceancloud,
let there be no storm on the crossing below.

I personally don't think it's got anything to do with starting in a new place. I think it's more about escaping real life and being in an environment that you treasure and cherish. 'I feel at home here in the middle of nowhere' probably represent the running away from the adversities in their life and being calm, happy and peaceful again.

The line, 'please oceancloud, let there be no storm on the crossing below' means, let me enjoy this moment forever - it's my chance to escape and I want to cherish every little detail. He/She who is running away doesn't want it to be a pathetic fallacy situation - he genuinely went on a journey to escape from everyday life and doesn't ever want that moment to end.

I'm guessing this song is about someone starting over in a new place:

Now I know there is a world beyond the small place I was coming from.

And at the end

Please oceancloud, let there be no storm on the crossing below.

I'm guessing this is about the person hoping their new life is not as bad as their previous one had been...

This is my fave Kings of Convenience song. Its not about a relationship with anyone except oneself and life. The traveller must trust that he will get to wherever he is going in time. The details of getting there are left up to whoever is conducting the vehicle. The song is about trusting the process of life while travelling to whatever destination you are going to. Some how, our eyes, our inner vision tell us where to look to keep balance, an even keel - the horizon- on which experiences come and go each and everyday as we journey into life.
