Poor Man's Crusade Lyrics

The Holy Ghost can't save you anymore
Your souls are condemned to burn in hell
Damned for all time
So spoke the noble one
He convinced us all
He is a gifted man
Though he will slaughter in the name of Christ

Holy and bright
He's a devil in disguise
Protector of the cross
Beware of the snake

[chorus:]
All in all it's just a poor man's crusade
Poor man's crusade
The Holy Land home of our blessed lord
Enslaved and stained by godless hands
They shall be damned
Jerusalem
Is waiting for you
To rise once again
So we will slaughter in the name of Christ

Holy father, holy father

[chorus]

You'll shed your blood
Your bodies fall
That is the price you'll pay
To cleanse you of your sins
Vicious and cruel
Let's kill them all
Let's kill them all

So we will slaughter in the name of Christ

Holy father, holy father

[chorus]

I would prabably have liked this song (and the band for that matter), but I just can't stand Blind Guardians vocalist, I don't even understand why they make him sing instead of Matt Barlow, cause he's so much better, and he's not that annoying...

Spanish Inquisition.

This song is about the corruption of religion during the time of the crusades. The rich could buy religious positions if they wanted to or just simply not work at all while the poor fought for the rich. The rich are fighting a useless war "slaughter in the name of Christ" that phrase makes no sense and the wars were useless. Thats how we get poor mans crusade.

Couldnt This Song Be About The Crusades, Not About The Corruption Of Religon During That Time......To Me It Makes More Sense Thinking About It That Way...

When one talks about the crusades one has to include the corruption of the Catholic Church at that time, and vice-versa.

It's all about the corrupt Catholic Church during the Crusades.

There's strong evidence to believe this song is about the Antichrist:

He is a gifted man who will deceive many, and those he deceives are condemned to hell: "The Holy Ghost can't save you anymore Your souls are condemned to burn in hell Damned for all time So spoke the noble one He convinced us all He is a gifted man"

He will walk into the temple in Jerusalem and declare himself God: "Jerusalem Is waiting for you To rise once again"

I think the meaning of this song, is well descripted in the song title. Is about the other crusades, that happened parallel to the oficial crusade ( the one of the noble mans or the statement of the privilege) this was planned by people that say to be prophets ( many of this people were part of the little noble ) and they motivate the masses to kill in the name of jesus because THEY were the chosen ones to liberate jerusalem. I found this reading the crusade of " the people of the tafurs " and the movement of the pastoreux in XIII. This poors crusade were know for their violence and disasters. Sorry for the bad english.
