This song holds such deep meaning to me. Basically, hearing from everyone else that the person that you've been with is basically making a fool out of you. Putting so much into a relationship, only to find that you mean nothing to them.

How can a view become so twisted...that line speaks volumes in itself.

This song is about your significant other speaking bad of you to your friends and it getting back to you and the pain and disappointment surrounding it. I love this, very good breakup song.

I agree with you all. The song is all the more intense for it's quiet. It's not all blaring music and shouting vocals, but more a quiet hurt that someone he loved so much could use his vulnerabilities against him to make him out to be a fool. The vocals bring tears to my eyes each time I listen. I'm listening to this song now and my son's bored witless because I've got it on repeat play and he wants to listen to Iron Man. lol

I can't believe there is only one other comment on this utterly brilliant song. It's so restrained and yet intense with beautiful melodies and lyrics.

I love this song.. thought there'd be more comments after reading the three pages on never let you down again. I think his friends must have told this person his weaknesses [or something related], and s/he used them against him. "you tried them", and judged him. He never felt so disappointed, because he trusted his friends and this person. I love the xylophone? it sounds so innocent..

This song is about your former significant other betraying you. This person said negative things about you (your weaknesses). Your friends inform you of this and they side with you as they already know you (and your wekanesses). You are painfully disappointed with this person after you thought you had a precious relationship that just didn't work out.

The verse "You tried them" means this person maliciously tried to do you harm by saying these things and judged you by your weaknesses

The verse "I thought that you liked them" means you thought this person liked you for who you are (weaknesses and all)

The verse "I get so carried away" "You brought me down to earth" means you were naive and this person made you realize that people can do vicious things

The verse "How can a view become so twisted" should be "How could have you become so twisted"

The singer is sad/disappointed that his girlfriend (or any other close person) is talking ill about him behind is back (and appears to have an utterly negative/'twisted' view on him), when (initially) the singer thought their relationship was stable and trustful ('I thought we had something precious...')
