Here Is The House Lyrics
Here is the house
Where it all happens
Those tender moments
Under this roof
Body and soul come together
As we come closer together
And is it happens
It happens here
In this house
And I feel your warmth
And it feels like home
And there's someone
Calling on the telephone
Let's stay home
It's cold outside
And I have so much
To confide to you
With or without words
I'll confide everything
So we stay at home
And I'm by your side
And you know
What's going on inside
Inside my heart
Inside this house
And I just want to
Let it out for you
And I feel your warmth
And it feels like home

This is such a beautiful song. The remake by Andain is pretty awesome too!
Great song, probably one of the greatest on Black Celebration (although the whole album is perfect)...
Straightforward song.
What I see underscoring the narration is the sense of loss. This is illustrated more in the cadence of language and melody than the lyrics. Ostensibly this is truly some form of ballad - ode to love - but underneath there seems a tinge of regret/nostolgia that elicits sadness.
It is this physical union the narrator longs for - "feels like home" - and this intimacy occurs "with or without words". In this sense it is special. The other person "feels like home". If one simply reads the lyrics they might misunderstand the song. Not to read too much into DM (I love them but they are relatively easy to comprehend).
This song doesn't need to be read deeply to understand what it's about. A night in with the person you love. Any moroseness is the result of the music itself, which does convey a somewhat dark feel (this song is from Black Celebration...the entire album gives off that vibe). But anyways, he's with the person that he cares for, whom he shares a special closeness with. And on this night, he just wants her to himself, to shut out the rest of the world and appreciate what they have between them at home.
Could you people stop cluttering up Songmeanings with your inane banter about how much you love this song? We get it, you like the band, go on Last.fm and sing their praises there. This site is meant for actual discussion on what your interpretation of the song is.
Anyway this seems like a straightforward love song which is belied by the somewhat dark synth lines. However it is possible to take this song literally, since with DM songs like "Somebody" or "World or Nothing" usually have subtle lyrical hints which tell the listener not to take the song at face value, or that the lyrics are in fact subversive. There aren't any hints in the lyrics here that the song is about anything other than desiring a quite night and closeness with your lover. It's a love song, albeit a somewhat gloomy sounding one. See ponyboy06's interpretation also.

The best DM love song IMO.No real undertones, and for me,the brightest spot on the BC album. He loves this person, and wants a private evening with just the two of them,no interruptions. He may not have confided or confessed everything to this person yet,but he will give himself completely over this night=surrender.Home=heaven in the Martin Gore songbook.
This will always be one of my favorite songs. It was used for the first dance at my wedding.
That is such a sweet and nice thing. =)

Call me crazy but i think this could be about incest between a brother and sister /sister and sister etc. it's not to out their i mean martin gore wrote it.
