The lyrics strike me as referring to a relationship that is WAY to close to be a band member or a mere friend. Come on now, "Life is pain, and pain is my life"? Or "I fuckin hurt so bad now, so i think i'll just lie down"... That sounds much more like it's referring to a girlfriend or something like that than a guy you hang with or work with.
