The Broken Vow

This song is fucking amazing. I actually saw this from the "converge fight" video floating around on youtube and I totally forgot about this song on the album, once I read the lyrics... God damn, this captures the bitterness of the most fucked up and failed relationship anyones ever been in. Everyone seems to have that one person if they ever came back into your life, you'd drop everything you were doing no matter what the consequences were just to love them again and have it all back. This song makes me want to fucking beat the living shit out of the person and cry and scream at them all at the same time. It's like he captured that whole mood fucking perfectly. Straight up insane.

if anyone has ever had their heart truly broken before, you'd know the feeling that you get when you read or hear these lyrics. The heart ache that comes with a relationship gone wrong, losing trust or losing someone... there's this inexplainable feeling and jake has really put the perfect words together to express that intense feeling that a lot of us can relate to. definitely one of my favourite converge songs.

It hurts like fuck! I will take the my love to my grave... you can never seem to let go of that one soul you just cant have. sick ass song!

Probably my favorite converge song. once again, jake bannon proves what an incredible songwriter/visionary artist he is. the guy just keeps pouring his heart out into his music, and with this one, you can just feel it. if you've ever been in a relationship gone bad, been let down/lost trust in someone who you care/d about deeply, then you can relate to this. from the writer's perspective, the person has been so hurt by a particular experience that he/she will 'take their love to the grave', implying that they'll never open up and love again. yes..quite bitter indeed...but when you experience it firsthand, it becomes easily understandable. oh..and when bannon screams 'and i write this for the loveless'...that whole part...wow...you can just feel the rage in the music.

Maybe you can take it in another way, maybe it's anger rather than loss and hurt that dominates? or maybe it's just me. ohkay, i get feelings associated with it like hurt and all that, but most of the time it's anger. you take your love to the grave, as in you try to kill them off (not as in literally) so that their presence doesn't haunt you (now that idea reminds me of A5A) and as a retribution thing for:

Those nights we had and the trust we lost The sleep that fled me and the heart I lost

A song to fucking live by. And that's all I have to say on this.

I think Refused17's comment on this song pretty much hits the nail on the head. Impeccable, in my opinion.

this song is pretty much painted on canvas, the way he screams just seems to match the lyrics he writes soo well. simply to die for

every song is so passionate. this one obviously no different.

and the funny thing is the same lyrics could be written by a shitty and terrible band like fear before the march of flames, and not be nearly as good.
