I think maybe this song is about someone being controlled, and changed by their fears/worries.

I need a surgeon devils inside won't cut me any slack - Needs someone to get rid of the demon's inside, because they are destroying that person. Maybe its talking about a psychotherapist or something akin to that; then again it could be a metaphor for self-harm.
For me this song is a criticism of capitalism. The protagonist is someone who is at least somewhat affluent and feels guilty about taking advantage of a corrupt system.
