Hey
Don’t take your life away
I think you’d rather stay
Follow me into the alleyway
We were passers on the street
I never thought we’d meet
Until I said, "How do you do, my love?"
You fall
You fall
Hey
Don’t stop and turn away
I’m sure you’d rather stay
Follow me into the alleyway
We were passers on the street
Don’t turn it into grief
Follow me into disaster
You fall
You fall
Fall
Hey
Don’t lock and turn away
Lose your life today
And follow me into the alleyway
You should turn and walk with me
I’ll even follow him
In search of wretched grand disaster
Simonize.
Don’t take your life away
I think you’d rather stay
Follow me into the alleyway
We were passers on the street
I never thought we’d meet
Until I said, "How do you do, my love?"
You fall
You fall
Don’t stop and turn away
I’m sure you’d rather stay
Follow me into the alleyway
Don’t turn it into grief
Follow me into disaster
You fall
You fall
Fall
Don’t lock and turn away
Lose your life today
And follow me into the alleyway
You should turn and walk with me
I’ll even follow him
In search of wretched grand disaster
Simonize.

This song IS about Jack the Ripper taking girls into alleys.
For me, this song is about the casualty of falling in love. Part of you, your singularity, is killed by the connection to that other person.
There is no guarentee in love. I think it's just saying take a chance on love. It might kill you, but it's worth the risk. "Follow me into the alleyway" is saying follow me into the unknown.
I don't get, I'll even follow him. It almost makes me think of the movie, Closer. They know they are wrong for going behind the guy's back to follow love, but it is a risk they are willing to take.
not sure
the song supposedly has something to do with jack the ripper and those kinds of serial killers, but i have no idea what the word simonize means, do you?
i don't agree with you, daffy. maybe he's trying to give consolation (...?) to somebody but i'm not sure either i have to figure it out.. but it's a beautiful song!!!
it is about serial killers. i love this song though. and girl like you at the end is great too.
If you go to Pete Yorn's official website, he explains the Jack the Ripper analogy that he uses in this song. This truly is a beautiful, yet dark song. It has to be one of my favorite on MFTMA Cd.
simonize means to polish with wax.... whatever that does to tie in with the song i have no idea...
We were passers on the street I never thought we’d meet Until I said, "How do you do, my love?"
this reminds me a lot of the beginning of Closer, but i don't really think this song has anything to do with it.
Pete Yorn has to be one of the most talented artists to ever walk this planet, top 5 for me. I love how he got the idea from reading a book about Jack the Ripper and the results are a truly unique and hauntingly beautiful song
I believe PY was alluding to the old game of "Simon Says"-- that game where in you lose when you don't do what the other player instructs. When he sings "Simonize", the context of the song suggests "to follow" (lyrics: follow me into the alleyway).
If I was not aware of that Jack the Ripper reference, I'd think this would also be about love that a person doesn't want to lose. In a much simpler sense, the lover would rather find "wretched grand disaster" with the beloved rather than lose him/her. When i think about the ripper, the songs actually DOES make sense coz the dude always stalked his victims inn the alleyway.
In any case, regardless of the book's reference, it's a very touching song. One of PY's most underrated songs from the Music for the Morning After album.
