Sense Lyrics

Time flew away
But something won’t forgive it all
Days and weeks
Let’s start from the beginning of a life.
She called today
Pretending not to care at all
For days and weeks
Now he’s hanging from the ceiling
What a life
Oh what a life
Was it a life?

Is something wrong with me?
I show you things you’ve never seen.
Is something wrong with me?
I show you things that you’ve only dreamed of.

I’m wide awake
I’ll drop you off for saying that
For days and two weeks
It was you who was defending such a lie
Oh what a lie
Was it a lie?

Is something wrong with me?
I show you things you’ve never seen.
Is something wrong with me?
I show you things that you’ve only dreamed of.
You never dreamed of
You never dreamed of.

Is something wrong with me?
I shown you things you’ve never seen.
Is something wrong with me?
I shown you things you’ve never seen.

Is something wrong with me?
I’ve shown you things you’ve never seen.
Is something wrong with me?
I’ve shown you things that you’ve only dreamed up.
Dream up
Dream up
Dream up
You never
You never dreamed of
Something won’t forgive it all.
You never
Something won't forgive it all.
You never changed.
Something won't forgive it all.
Something won't forgive it all.
You never changed.

this song reminds me alot of my ex-girlfriend of 8 years. i would give my life for her and anything to make her happy but i lost her in the end......sad me.

pete yorn was inspired to write this song after he saw "the 6th sense" if you go to the PY website it says something about it...he applies it to his life of course, but just the idea of seeing something more about life than most people "ive shown you things that youve only dreamed of..." . One hint to this is "im wide awake...ill drop you off for saying that" Someone says to him that they are 'awake' and he is saying 'no you arent, you dont see what i see". I dont think this is a sad song though, Pete Yorn uses mood and tempo in his songs a lot to emphasis meaning...and listen to the end...sad lyrics but a hopefull feeling in the music. kinda like a "have hope, someday someone will understand you and love you for the gifts you have" message.

I agree that it is not a sad song because there is a confidence in the speaker. I do think though that its about lossing a lover.

Cheers

dunno, but i love "is something wrong with me? I showed you things you never dreamed of." detaching them from the context of the song, those words are just so expressive-- disappointment in himself, and perhaps in the person they're being directed at, that he or she didn't appreciate those things that he showed.

Sounds to me like a lopsided relationship, where one person puts their all into it, and the other person is just not as into it, or the other person, as they should be to make it a happy relationship. And he's (author? PY?) the one who's feeling duped -- "something won't forgive it all".

I had a relationship like this, and this song is sort of the 'theme' of that relationship, so much so that the two are intertwined, and when I think of one, I immediately think of the other.

If you take the song to be a "sixth sense" piece, I think that the words are being said by the main characters in the film. Things or actions being taken are being seen in a way that's different than what's intended. Giving a wrong impression to what's actually happening. Also recall in the movie the little boy tells the doctor to talk to his wife while she is sleeping "he's showing her things that she only dreamed up". By the way I read the lyrics on the cover of the cd and he says "you never change" not "changed". It's present tense. To say that no matter how hard people are trying no one's making an effort to change. Oh also if you listen to the end words "something wont forgive it all" it sounds like it's coming through a tape recorder. To act as the voice of the dead warning that things are still in the air, unfinished. This happening while he continues to sing "you never change" also saying that they (the dead) will never stop til they've done what they have to do.
