I don't know the story of Spawn well enough. It seems to me that most of the songs on "The Dark Saga" are about the same thing, with only a few exceptions. This just seems to tell about how he sold his soul and nothing else.
No rock hawk, you need to look closer. At this point on the album, the character's inner reflection probes deeper, and he concludes he must seek God's forgiveness if he is to break free.
or at least to place himself at the mercy of god by handing himself out...well death could be a form of breaking free for him too so i guess he doesn't cares a lot about wether he will be killed by god ("And will the wrath of god have mercy on my soul Or humilate me, desecrate me, like his only son ") or set free...attack on religion here too^^
