It's funny how nothing seems much fun
Anymore to me now that I quit the drink
'Cause soberness, it might be what I need
But it's certainly not how I want to be

Nothing seems much fun anymore to me

Consequence never had anytime to think
About what coulda, shoulda, happen to me
see-Common sense my parents said I
Never had any, but now look whose
Got the dough

No longer born to lose
Put away my party shoes
Missin' the alcohol
Don't feel like goin' out
Nothing worth singin' about
Missin' the alcohol
Without tonic n gin
Without no vicodin

Nothing seems much fun anymore to me [Repeat: x4]

No hidden meaning, it's about someone who's given up alcohol and feel like nothing's fun anymore without it, even though it's what's best for them. "It may be what i need but it's certainly not how i wanna be."

    Song Meaning

Why the fuck should this song be about "Smelly" Erik Melvin? Sorry for being so harsh!

Quoting General Comment from DeanBetamberineon August 04, 2009:

"smelly did a lot of acid and other drugs, he got his name smelly cos his acid farts stank he was gonna get kicked out of the band unless he went sober which he did and then they recorded whatever album it was with him"

Smelly became a hardcore heroin addict... and eventually faced the day where the Band Nofx forced him to decide wether its gonna be THE BAND or drugs..

    He chose NOFX!

Anyways you fucking NOFX history noobs (the ones I clearly finger point on, feel adressed, the rest of you LOVE YA)

This song is Mike Burkett, describing his "new" found feeling for drugs, hiding it in alcholism abuse...

    period finished thats it

Anyone have any more insight on this? It might be about Smelly (makes sense) but I could never figure out why Fat Mike, self-professed alcoholic and dug-user would sing this. If it was about Smelly wouldn't Smelly sing it? Maybe Fat Mike went sober for a brief stint?

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
