Digging a Ditch Lyrics
Run to your dreaming,
When you're alone,
Unplug the tv,
Turn off your phone.
Get heavy on with digging your ditch.
Cause I'm digging a ditch,
Where madness gives a bit.
Digging a ditch,
Where silence lives.
Digging a ditch,
For when I'm old.
Digging this ditch,
My story's told.
Where all these troubles,
That weigh down on me will rise,
Run to your dreaming,
When you're alone.
Where all these questions,
Spinning around my head,
Will die, will die, will die...
Run to your dreaming,
When you're alone.
Unplug the tv,
Turn off your phone.
Get heavy on with digging your ditch.
Cause I'm digging a ditch,
Where madness gives a bit.
Digging a ditch,
Where silence lives.
Digging a ditch,
And when I'm through digging this ditch,
I'll dig in for you.
Where all these worries
that weigh down on me will rise,
Where all these habits,
That pull heavy at my heart will die.
Run to your dreaming, when you're alone,
Not what you should be or what you've become,
Just getting heavy on with digging your ditch.
Cause I'm digging a ditch,
Where madness gives a bit.
I'm digging a ditch,
Where silence lives.
Where all these disappointments
that grow angry out of me,
Will rise, will die, will die, will die...
Run to your dreaming, when you're alone,
Unplug the tv,
Turn off your phone.
Get heavy on with digging your ditch
When you're alone,
Unplug the tv,
Turn off your phone.
Get heavy on with digging your ditch.
Where madness gives a bit.
Digging a ditch,
Where silence lives.

When you're alone.
Unplug the tv,

Digging a ditch,

Your'e kidding! no Diggin a Ditch comments! In this song i see someone who is seeking solitude. It a place that makes you feel great, b/c you have no worries, and it's quiet and no one botheres you, but at the same time, it's peace comes with a self-destructive price. Sure, it's all pretty now- but the drugs will wear off soon enough and you'll just be left in your ditch.
I agree with the above, but I guess it could apply to a big lie, bad relationship, pretty much anything that once you're in you can't get out, and the thought that while you're digging, you aren't realizing you can't get out....you just keep going. The phrase "digging your own grave" is what I always think of.
i think this song is about digging a ditch to bury his troubles, worries and dissapointments. not so much as digging his own grave. "unplug the t.v., turn of your phone" is just saying get away by yourself and dig your ditch.
I agree with this one actually, I think it truly is the idea to bury all your worries and all the negative things that have got you down, and gotten in your way. and you know shut down all the distractions, the tv and the phone, just focus on yourself. try to feel better and more positive about life.

Honestly, I think it's been over-interpreted. It gives me the impression of an odd sort of everyday meditation. How someone feels sorry for themselves when they're alone, and tries to make peace with the world daily. Imagine someone wrapping themselves up for just a little while in thier lonliness and dissapointment, just to find a place to put it.
for me I related to this song well because there are times where I just sit by myself with no television and just chill out to me this is saying spend sometime with yourself and learn who you really are through your day dreams and what you think about
It's about getting ready to die and being free from all your worries. It says so in the DMB book step into the light. But that book cause its really good and dave rocks.
This song is about killing yourself. I think some of you have overanalyzed this song. I mean its write there. He's ready to dig his own ditch when the madness gice and when sadness gives. "Where all these disappointments That grow angry out of me will rise" in this line he is basically saying that once he is dead everything that disappoints him will rise along with his sould become non-existent. He dreams about killing himself and he does so he is cutting off the rest of the world "unplug your TV turn off the phone". Thats just my opinion. This is a very sad song. It gives me chills
In my opinion... Dave is talking about just getting away from the task of just living through a difficult part in your life. when he says he will unplug the tv and turn off the phone he doesnt want to get bothered with the hastles life brings... he's just implying that at time we just want to be alone, and he encourages this by digging a ditch to further yourself from the world... of course thats just my opinion i could be wrong
i agree with proud. i think that hes talking about ridding himself of all the bad things in his life.. burying his past and moving on.
i think this song is about getting away from all the hassles and worries in life. Being with yourself to get rid of all the dissipointments in life. I think its about finding yourself beneith all the shit life gives you
