I believe the diary was create
For people who didn't have the courage
To speak those thoughts out loud
You know so
In a way they feel it is the same
As speaking those thoughts out loud
Writing them in a page but
Really it's just trapping those words and those thoughts
Forever
Versus speaking those words right there in the moment
And letting all those things and feeling go
Free
Uh
Somehow I feel like it's my last days
But don't be sad if I pass way
I done walk for miles on this pathway
Still don't see no signs on this road
What does this path say
Sometimes I feel like I been trapped in the dirt
Cuz I've been putting in the work
But I feel it don't work
It's hard to pick up the shovel
When you burying hurt
Cuz your arms is weak
From always carrying dirt
Can't even find the words to speak
When you trapped in the mind
I been thinking about the past
It's hard to leave it behind
I don't want to play the victim
But I'm sick of the lies
I'm sick of giving my feelings
To bitches that never tried
Trying to hide the hurt
They say a man should never cry
But I'm crying worse
When I'm looking up to the sky
Like it's fireworks
Cuz my mother never replies
When I'm trying to search
For reason to be alive
Instead of die on Earth
Cuz I swear I slowly been giving in
Thinking about my problems
It got me writing this shit again
I'm just trying to get to the money
Counting them dividends
Even though I'm rolling I'm tired
Michelin
Thinking bout my memories as a kid
Missing them
Now I'm losing all of my life
Trying to do business
Crazy how to hurt can be big
From the littlest
I'm just trying to hold on to grip
But I'm the little pig
This Little Piggy didn't go off to the market
Naw
This Little Piggy ran off without talking
Now this little Piggy's living off in the forest
Blocking the worries
It's shielding his rain
Ain't stopping the pouring
But it ain't stopping his story
This has got to be for me
This is now not forever
I just got to have Glory
If I could go back to the past
I'll clean it all up
Then it's right back to the future
I'll hop in the DeLorean
Just beware of my thorns
If you go picking exploring
Cuz I was scorn
I was torn
When I was timid and growing
Now beware of the horns
You really been warned
Said I'm handing em porn
Cuz it's fuck what you on
Dear diary
Dear diary
Dear diary
Dear diary
Uh
Everybody taking kindness for weakness
I try to be the nicest when I'm feeling the meanest
You really need a ice pick
Cuz my heart is been freezing
I just show em to the exit
Everybody be leaving
So I don't even get attached cuz my feelings is dead
Have you ever fell in love with someone the moment you met
Then they turn around and tell you they love another instead
Now the only time you see em is a vision in head
Now y'all not even speaking
Not even call or a text
And you don't even know who the other partner in bed
Just thinking bout all the words you wanted but never said
Now you just having flashbacks
And they full of regrets
Like do you know what it's like to live a life all alone
When you want to be lifeless until ya life is almost gone
Do you know what it's like to be fucked over by ya own
But instead of holding it against em you just got to move on
Yeah it probably hurted
But you got to stay strong
So get yo bags packed
Mad fast we getting gone
Cuz you half assed
Backtracked but now we grown
We can't have that
Fast cash is what we on
If they can't grasp that
Bag back leave em alone
Til we pass that rough patch
Won't need a loan
We done ask that
Got back nothing on phone
So when that bag fat
Don't ask I'm never home
Dear diary
Dear diary
Dear diary
Dear diary
Dear diary
Dear diary

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
