Queen Of The Slipstream Lyrics
You're the Queen of the slipstream
With eyes that shine
You have crossed many waters to be here
You have drank of the fountain of innocence
And experienced the long cold wintry years.
There's a dream where the contents are visible
Where the poetic champions compose
Will you breathe not a word of this secrecy, and
Will you still be my special rose?
Bridge
Goin' away far across the sea
But I'll be back for you
Tell you everything I know
Baby everything is true
Will the blush still remain
On your cheeks my love
In the light always seen
In your head?
Gold and sliver they placed
At your feet my dear
But I know you chose me.
Instead
Goin' away... etc.
You're the Queen of the slipstream
I love you so
You have crossed many waters to be here
And you drink at the fountains of innocence
And experienced, you know very well
With eyes that shine
You have crossed many waters to be here
You have drank of the fountain of innocence
And experienced the long cold wintry years.
There's a dream where the contents are visible
Where the poetic champions compose
Will you breathe not a word of this secrecy, and
Will you still be my special rose?
Goin' away far across the sea
But I'll be back for you
Tell you everything I know
Baby everything is true
On your cheeks my love
In the light always seen
In your head?
Gold and sliver they placed
At your feet my dear
But I know you chose me.
Instead
Goin' away... etc.
You're the Queen of the slipstream
I love you so
You have crossed many waters to be here
And you drink at the fountains of innocence
And experienced, you know very well

I think that Van Morrison is one of the most respectful and wonderful artists....This song just states an intense adoration and respect for that which is woman :)
cheers to that, lahoma. van is definitely the most romantic man in the world... i think i would be in puddles if anyone ever wrote a song like this to me.
@digitallove , Van IS romantic almost like prayers are his stuff, what about Mr. “Hallelujah” song writer? Omg cannot believe his name’s just left the brain momentarily Wtf annoying

Will you breathe not a word of this secrecy, and Will you still be my special rose?
^I love that part.
Which other songwriter would think of describing someone as 'Queen of the Slipstream'? The man is on another level.....
our guardian angel is talking to us: "You're the queen/king of the [my] slipstream With eyes that shine You have crossed many waters to be here [you have many incarnations to arrive at this one] You have drank of the fountain of innocence [you have had to relearn the basics each time] And experienced the long cold wintry years [ and had to learn by the tried and trusted way of trial and error]
Van has a talent for romantic words. It's almost like he's saying he sees a purity and depth in this woman He clearly loves and cherishes He draws inspiration from her and It is definitely too special to break He's reassuring her that he'll return
Re Slipstream
It happen to be the current of air that keeps an airplane afloat
So she keeps him high as in a good state of mind
Now you know why you like it besides all the other nice words
Well, sorry to burst the bubble here, but a "slipstream" is not what keeps a plane aloft, it's the air BEHIND the aircraft (the wake), which in a way gets sucks along a little. It's the point at which the air passing around the moving object meets and is not moving, like a buffer. In terms of Nascar racing, if a car sits in the slipstream it doesn't need as much pedal to keep the speed up, the car creating the slipstream assists the one in the slipstream.

So, with that come up with a better interpretation of what the "slipstream" in the song is about.
I agree with all of the comments here. When I hear that Van's lady is the Queen of the Slipstream it brings to mind a bit of a star crossed relationship. She has come a very long way, and left a good life to be with him, only to find he must leave... So as he travels far across the sea, his lady is always on his mind, but yet so far away. As he flies, in a plane or metaphorically, she is always close, but yet behind. The circumstances of their life conspire to...

The circumstances of their life conspire to pull them apart and he can only dream of her, because she is behind him, once again, in the slipstream.
Classic. Bittersweet. Irish. Just like the history of Ireland itself.
Oh my... you all no nothing about Van, this song is about his struggle with alcohol. The "slip stream" is what you slip on and end up back on the horse. It's NOT about love, it's about alcohol which makes it that much more beautiful because it's real and not some record company BS
Babies, so many masterpieces a open for interpretation.
Slipstream is a region behind a moving object in which a wake of fluid is moving at velocities comparable to the moving object.
To Me this song is a metaphor for the sea, a ship, a woman that moves in rhythm with a lover. home.
What should be important is what it means to you.
