This song is about being in love with someone you know you don’t have a future with but still wanting to have some form of relationship with them. It doesn’t seem to be about rejection, since the person in the song doesn’t propose the idea of having feelings of the other. The line “I won’t try to say what can’t be said” may suggest the fear of rejection and suppressing his true feelings for the sake of maintaining a friendship.
