Spring Lyrics
Where is my mind? I've lost the nerve
This year flew by without a word
I had a plan to cross the world
But haven't left this island
The stores closed down then opened up
I said I'd do a sober month
I failed, but tried, and wrote this drunk
In overwhelming silence
And I'll see my friends when all this ends
But now until then
I'm holdin' out for spring
We can't let winter win
That's why I'm holdin' out for spring
Oh, what a state we're in
I'll keep holdin' out for spring
Homework and canceled holidays
The blame gets passed to save a face
The smell of last night's takeaway
Just tells me I'm a mess
Still watching shows they recommend
That don't get good until the end
I could be unwell, but then again
Maybe I'm just depressed
And I'll fix my head when all this ends
But now until then
I'm holdin' out for spring
We can't let winter win
That's why I'm holdin' out for spring
Oh, what a state we're in
I'll keep holdin' out for
Springtime, blue skies
Frost fades slowly
Crossed my mind to linger
And hold out for spring
We can't let winter win
That's why I'm holdin' out for spring
Oh, what a state we're in
This year flew by without a word
I had a plan to cross the world
But haven't left this island
The stores closed down then opened up
I said I'd do a sober month
I failed, but tried, and wrote this drunk
In overwhelming silence
But now until then
We can't let winter win
That's why I'm holdin' out for spring
Oh, what a state we're in
I'll keep holdin' out for spring
The blame gets passed to save a face
The smell of last night's takeaway
Just tells me I'm a mess
Still watching shows they recommend
That don't get good until the end
I could be unwell, but then again
Maybe I'm just depressed
But now until then
We can't let winter win
That's why I'm holdin' out for spring
Oh, what a state we're in
I'll keep holdin' out for
Frost fades slowly
Crossed my mind to linger
We can't let winter win
That's why I'm holdin' out for spring
Oh, what a state we're in

Ed Sheeran founded Gingerbread Man Records back in 2015, and although the artists he has signed on have released projects, the man himself didn’t do so for eight years. On September 29, he finally dropped his first project under his record label. It’s a fourteen-track album titled “Autumn Variations.” Just like on his sixth album, he worked closely with Aaron Dessner on this album. In fact, “Spring,” the tenth track on this new album, is the only sing to have another individual on the production credit besides Aaron Dessner. The other producer for the song happens to be Aaron’s twin brother, Bryce Dessner.
Ed Sheeran is hoping the turn of the season will bring better fortunes on this track titled “Spring.” He slides into the role of a man reflecting on an unsuccessful past few months, hence the desperate need for a reset. He believes that as winter transitions into spring, he will have that much-needed reboot he needs to get away from his problems.
Ed Sheeran searches for something to fuel his hope on “Spring.” The track plays out nicely, although it feels like one of the more forgettable tracks on the album. The instrumental doesn’t quite hit as well as it needs to, so I’ll only score this 6/10.
