The Smoke Lyrics

Easy, easy
It begs me while I’m sleeping
I desire a second chance
I have set my soul on fire

It’s easy
Don’t mess with me
Don’t mess with me
As I die, in the flames
As I set myself on fire

Uh, wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me from my sleep
Wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me from
Yeah, yeah, yeah

A one true revolution
Wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me

It’s easy to leave me
We should give ourselves another chance
Let go of our troubles
Into our caress
Our caress

And we set ourselves on fire
We set ourselves on fire
Wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me from
Wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me from
Wakes me from my sleep
Smoke wakes me from my sleep
Wakes me from my sleep
Yeah

My interpretation:

We humans always desire a second chance, especially when we have done wrong. Globalization ties us all together, through capitalist consumerism and mass media. This is from the perspective of one person, one like the millions of us that knows we should stop driving our cars or buying the next iPhone but we can’t because everything is low hanging fruit.

The long term effects of this global lifestyle is climate change and the smoke is everywhere across the globe and you cannot avoid it, it’s on the TV, internet, and literally the hills are on fire across the globe. The smoke is so bad it wakes you from your sleep.

This person like many feels we shouldn’t have to face the consequences, with all our power we should just give ourselves what we want and make all the problems go away. It’s easy, just turn the channel or watch Netflix and it disappears.

We have lit ourselves on fire, the planet is literally an inferno caused by human activity. We have lit ourselves on fire.
