Mount Pleasant Lyrics

From streets of Mount Pleasant a final fling
For the truth will out
My heart beats a little faster
In its poor neglected shell
And would I know you if you wanted me
In these roads I know so well
Every town has got one
And every town is hell
Too late I’m coming back to you (x5)
With promises of things that I can do

From streets of Mount Pleasant women sing
The lights go out
There’s a death on every corner
And we all remember Jack at the Warner
Like a talisman of change before the world went mad
And the nights run with the rain
Of a million Sunday mornings
And a million wedding rings
And all those other things
Too late I’m coming back to you (x5)
With promises of things that I can do

Well I grew up too slowly
Grew up so much faster
Enough of my labours while I aim for the moon
I packed up my suitcase and headed for a new life
Left the river, arcades, and most of all you

As it was in the beginning
So shall it end
A promise of beauty and of danger
You’re as deep as a puddle (x3)
Too late I’m coming back to you (x3)
With promises of things that I can do

I can't understand how this song didn't even get properly recorded (other than a BBC session) as far as I'm aware? It's surely one of the greatest songs of the 90's!!!

@rudderless1975 I know exactly what you mean, heard this on the BBC Session, stopped me dead in my tracks, had it taped for a while and had to wait for the Five Lives Left compilation to bask in it again. All other bands are Dogshite
