Animals Lyrics

I do my best but everything seems ominous.
Not feeling blessed, quite the opposite.
This shouldn't feel so monotonous.
It never rains but it pours.

We're just a bunch of fucking animals,
But we're afraid of the outcome.
Don't cry to me because the fiction that we're living in says I should pull the pin.

Should I just pull the pin?
Should I just pull the pin?

I dug my heels, I thought that I could stop the rot.
The ground gave way, now I've lost the plot.
Fucked it again that was all I've got.
It never rains but it pours.

Life is just a dream within a...

We're just a bunch of fucking animals,
But we're afraid of the outcome.
Don't cry to me because the fiction that we're living in says I should pull the pin.

Buried under dirt, a diamond in the mud.
Infinity is waiting there cause nobody can burn a glass cathedral.

Dream within a, dream within a...

We're just a bunch of fucking animals,
But we're afraid of the outcome.
Don't cry to me because the fiction that we're living in says I should pull the pin.
We're just a bunch of fucking animals,
But we're afraid of the outcome.
Don't cry to me because the fiction that we're living in says I should pull the pin.

Should I just pull the pin?
Should I just pull the pin?
(Buried under dirt, a diamond in the mud.)
Should I just pull the pin?
(Infinity is waiting there cause nobody can burn a glass cathedral.)
Should I just pull the pin?

Man, this song is good. Just damn, it's good. To me the lyrics are straight forward - I don't see a lot of metaphor or hidden meaning. It's bleak. "We're just a bunch of fucking animals" (our bodies are made of the exact same things as other animals; blood, bone, tissue, carbon etc. we are, in fact, animals - though we've evolved to develop language and writing, and we're self conscious - studies show other animals are also self conscious [dolphins, killer whales, chimpanzees etc.]), "But we're afraid of the outcome" (fear of damnation - man made religion has created this notion that every action we take is judged as right or wrong by some superior creator being and we will suffer for all of eternity at his hand unless we do everything he tells us to do). "Don't cry to me because the fiction that we're living in Says I should pull the pin Should I just pull the pin?" Man, this is heavy. I could be wrong, but this, to me means - if the suffering is too much - we could all just opt to end it. Like, no one remembers anything from before they were born. That is oblivion. Death is likely oblivion too. "Buried under dirt, a diamond in the mud Infinity is waiting there 'cause nobody can burn a glass cathedral" This is the lyric that I am trying to decipher. I interpret this as death is the diamond in the mud because there is (likely) no more pain (oblivion). For the interpretation to "nobody can burn a glass cathedral" I looked at science; Fire can melt glass, however, glass has a melting point of only 2,552 to 2,912 degrees Fahrenheit. This means most sources of fire will not burn hot enough to reach that point. Interestingly, glass will only melt, it will not burn. That's because glass is not combustible or flammable so it can't oxidize. My take; Religion still dominates how most people see the world. The glass cathedral can't be "burned". Religion dominates how most humans see life and death. Infinity is waiting there - the afterlife that we've created in our man made religion. Oblivion is likely the true infinity. Man, powerful song. So good.
