Evermore Lyrics

[Verse 1: Taylor Swift]
Gray November
I've been down since July
Motion capture
Put me in a bad light
I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone
Trying to find the one where I went wrong
Writing letters
Addressed to the fire

[Chorus: Taylor Swift]
And I was catching my breath
Staring out an open window
Catching my death
And I couldn't be sure
I had a feeling so peculiar
That this pain would be for
Evermore

[Verse 2: Taylor Swift]
Hey December
Guess I'm feeling unmoored
Can't remember
What I used to fight for
I rewind thе tape but all it does is pause
On thе very moment, all was lost
Sending signals
To be double-crossed

[Chorus: Taylor Swift & Justin Vernon]
And I was catching my breath
Barefoot in the wildest winter
Catching my death
And I couldn't be sure
I had a feeling so peculiar
That this pain would be for
Evermore
(Evermore)

[Bridge 1: Justin Vernon]
Cannot think of all the cost
And the things that will be lost
Oh, can we just get a pause?
To be certain, we'll be tall again
Whether weather be the frost
Or the violence of the dog days
I'm on waves, out being tossed
Is there a line that I could just go cross?

[Bridge 2: Taylor Swift & Justin Vernon]
And when I was shipwrecked (Can't think of all the cost)
I thought of you (All the things that will be lost now)
In the cracks of light (Can we just get a pause?)
I dreamed of you (To be certain we'll be tall again, if you think of all the costs)
It was real enough (Whether weather be the frost)
To get me through (Or the violence of the dog days) (Or the violence of the dog days)
(I'm on waves, out being tossed)
(I'm on waves, out being tossed)
I swear (Is there a line that we could just go cross?)
You were there

[Chorus: Taylor Swift & Justin Vernon]
And I was catching my breath
Floors of a cabin creaking under my step
And I couldn't be sure
I had a feeling so peculiar
This pain wouldn't be for
Evermore
Evermore
Evermore
This pain wouldn't be for evermore
Evermore

What the artist means The title track simply had to be the most riveting, and judging by the featured artist it's clear that she's not holding back on that promise. She's been holding back for some time, but now she's no longer willing to measure her footsteps, she is ready to take a step in the right direction, a step into forever and ever more. She's no longer willing to live with the pain, she's loving December because it's way better than all the pain she felt earlier in the year. She's been sending signals, only to be double-crossed, now she's having super peculiar feelings, it's just a matter of time. Bon Iver steps in and turns the song on its head, Justin is giving is post-2010 vibes, he's taking a rollercoaster into the mind of his lover, and all he wants is happily ever after, forever and ever more.

What the song means to me The song is all about finding solace in whatever makes you best-pleased every day of one’s life. That's what Taylor Swift is crooning about, and that's what she enlisted Bon Iver to heighten too. The artists are proving to be more than just good on paper, they are an odd couple that can't seem to do any wrong on this record. The production is smooth, the vocals are crystal clear, and there's no lull in the delivery. I will give this song a rating of 10/10.

The title track of Taylor Swift’s album evermore starts slow and shaky, but with the voice of Bon Iver, the song picks up speed and changes tone. While some things end, we can still hope the person, opportunity, or whatever it was will come back, and we can always wait for it. Swift sings, “I close my eyes but she’s still there/ I let her steal into my melancholy heart/… Waiting by an open door/ I’ll fool myself, she’ll walk right in/ And be with me for evermore”. Swift here knows that even if she is gone, she can still wait for her again, no matter the pain it will cause. What may have been may be painful, but Swift is “Waiting here for evermore.” Perhaps the most powerful and moving song on the album, ‘evermore’ is a tribute to perseverance and love that knows no time or boundary as people wait “evermore” for their loved ones in the great beyond or in the here and now even if we know they are never coming back. This is a song of hope that we can all be reunited again in one place or another.
