Tolerate It Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I sit and watch you reading with your head low
I wake and watch you breathing with your eyes closed
I sit and watch you
I notice everything you do or don't do
You're so much older and wiser, and I
[Chorus]
I wait by the door like I'm just a kid
Use my best colors for your portrait
Lay the table with the fancy shit
And watch you tolerate it
If it's all in my head tell me now
Tell me I've got it wrong somehow
I know my love should be celebrated
But you tolerate it
[Verse 2]
I greet you with a battle hero's welcome
I take your indiscretions all in good fun
I sit and listеn, I polish plates until they gleam and glistеn
You're so much older and wiser and I
[Chorus]
I wait by the door like I'm just a kid
Use my best colors for your portrait
Lay the table with the fancy shit
And watch you tolerate it
If it's all in my head tell me now
Tell me I've got it wrong somehow
I know my love should be celebrated
But you tolerate it
[Bridge]
While you were out building other worlds, where was I?
Where's that man who'd throw blankets over my barbed wire?
I made you my temple, my mural, my sky
Now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life
Drawing hearts in the byline
Always taking up too much space or time
You assume I'm fine, but what would you do if I
[Chorus]
Break free and leave us in ruins
Took this dagger in me and removed it
Gain the weight of you then lose it
Believe me, I could do it
If it's all in my head tell me now
Tell me I've got it wrong somehow
I know my love should be celebrated
But you tolerate it
[Outro]
I sit and watch you
I sit and watch you reading with your head low
I wake and watch you breathing with your eyes closed
I sit and watch you
I notice everything you do or don't do
You're so much older and wiser, and I
I wait by the door like I'm just a kid
Use my best colors for your portrait
Lay the table with the fancy shit
And watch you tolerate it
If it's all in my head tell me now
Tell me I've got it wrong somehow
I know my love should be celebrated
But you tolerate it

The fifth track off her latest studio album titled "evermore" was produced by Aaron Dessner, and released on December 11, 2020.
What the artist means She's been hearing all the news, she's been reading through the lines, and she's been driving through the streets, knowing all the dirt thrown on her legacy. That's why she's sitting and watching him reading with his head low, she's watching his every move, and she's noticing everything he's doing and not doing. She's singing about a relationship she had with an older man, which simply tested her limits and tolerance levels. She's taking all his indiscretions, she's staying and listening, maybe, just maybe that's part of him being older and wiser. She's waxing lyrical here, singing about torture, tolerance, and insecurities. This track comes off as quite different from the previous ones on the album thus far.
What the song means to me She is sounding utterly hurt on this record, it seems like she was wronged by an older lover, who assumes that she's fine, while she's the complete opposite. One thing I've noticed on this record is that Taylor is leaving her heart on these records, she's leaving no stones left unturned. This track is another example of the maturity in her songwriting, and it's a sterling reminder of her place in the list of musical greats. This track is spotless, it is riveting, and thought-provoking. I will give this song a rating of 10/10.
Taylor Swift's 'tolerate it' is a story of a tragic romance and how one woman is wondering how her partner can tolerate their relationship any more. All she can do is sit by and wonder how her partner can handle it day in and out. She sings, "I sit and watch you/…I sit and listen/…I know my love should be celebrated/ But you tolerate it". This shows how the woman in the song keeps faking it, hoping something changes, but it never does. On the other hand, she also wonders what would happen if she just left, "Took this dagger in me and removed it?/ Gain the weight of you then lose it/…But you tolerate it". While she keeps wondering what would happen if she left this relationship, she knows that her partner does not feel the same as he sits by and tolerates the situation. This is a song whose melancholic story makes you wonder how love could make you feel so numb and why the woman has not left an apparently loveless relationship.
Song was inspired by a novel called Rebecca written by English author, Daphne du Maurier. \n\n“Its about trying to love someone who’s ambivalent” - Taylor Swift (Song writing process of Evermore / Apple Music interview)
