Action Replay Lyrics
Girl you have such tragic taste in men
Your predilecton
For comedians
Your great addiction
Though they treat you well
They bring you brief glimpses of hell
What a bombshell
Maybe all these fools are on the payroll
In that case sleep well and let the good times roll
But understand it's just the simple slight of hand
On the other hand
One plus one makes three
I guess that's true to some degree
But only if you squint the right way
Oh watch frame by frame on action replay
Girl you work your magic now and then
Without restriction
First your rebirth then your crucifixion
When you show your hand
Your services are in demand
Maybe all these fools are on the payroll
In that case sleep well and let the good times roll
But understand it's just the simple slight of hand
On the other hand
One plus one makes three
I guess that's true to some degree
But only if you squint the right way
Oh watch frame by frame on action replay
You took a gorgeous risk
Oh I won't deny the genius
Of those words that you sometimes twist
Got me round your little finger
Such a disagreeable business
Then you go all-out disco
Side-winding out of the picture
Gone instead, let's have a drink
It's no ordinary date
I've got nothing planned
On the other hand
One plus one makes three
I guess that's true to some degree
Like four plus four makes nine
Oh it's been proven every time
But only if you squint the right way
Oh watch frame by frame on action replay
Your predilecton
For comedians
Your great addiction
Though they treat you well
They bring you brief glimpses of hell
What a bombshell
In that case sleep well and let the good times roll

/ Girl you have such tragic taste in men, your predilection\nFor comedians, your great addiction /\n\n> The girl in question, a woman, likes the fact that some men tell jokes or comical situations to her, causing her to have an emotional affection for them.\n\n/ Though they treat you well\nThey bring you brief glimpses of hell\nWhat a bombshell /\n\n> Despite this humorous behaviour, she\'s knows that something will not end perfectly good in he way she thinks, because she\'s very attractive to every men she meet.\n\n/ Maybe all these fools are on the payroll\nIn that case, sleep well and let the good times roll\nBut understand it\'s just the simple slight of hand /\n\n> All the men are paying for her company and this will not lead her into a stable relationship. Anyway, she finds herself with a single perspective: live and let live. She\'s already deep into this and does not find a perspective of getting out of it.\n\n/ One plus one makes three\nI guess that\'s true to some degree\nBut only if you squint the right way\nOr watch frame by frame on action replay /\n\n> This relates to the idea that her prostitution is just acceptable and there\'s no way of making it less cruel in any aspect. Society might look at it with disdain but there are people who need to work with it to survive, regardless of the moralist views (the 1+1=3 logic). Looking through different views seems to lead to nowhere (the squint view or recording her doing sex), the personal memory is better than appear on any website.\n\n/ Girl, you work your magic now and then without restriction\nFirst your rebirth then your crucifixion\nWhen you show your hand\nYour services are in demand /\n\n> She will continuing her prostitution, which seems like a idealistic freedom and a moral slavery at the same time as her services are always in demand.\n\n/ You took a gorgeous risk\nOh, I won\'t deny the genius\nOf those words that you sometimes twist\nGently round your little finger\nSuch a disagreeable business /\n\n> She\'s always risking her life with strange clients, an ironic geniality. She uses the language and her charm to earn her money in this "disagreeable business". /\n\n/ Then you go all out disco\nSidewinding out of the picture\nGod Is Dead, let\'s have a drink\nIt\'s no ordinary day\nI\'ve got nothing planned\nOn the other hand /\n\n> She\'s always hanging around at the disco hall, sidewinding like a snake through everyone around her. She lost all faith in any sort of divinity or in a bright future, she will drink with someone, it\'s just another day at work, the man have nothing planned and they are just having fun together in this endless story.
My interpretation:: “She” is addiction, specifically alcoholism. This song is about how it’s a 2 way street and certain people tend to be more likely to fall into addiction. I.e., She has tragic taste in men, preferring comedians / performers. It’s from both perspectives of the personified addiction & the addict. Having some clarity after recovery, about how when in the depths of addiction you might look back on situations and reframe what really happened to be less painful - the logic isn’t there (1+1=3, then 4+4=9) you’ll tell yourself anything to make it less painful to recall until you’re truly ready to take accountability. There’s also a mourning to go back, but knowing how it ends.
