My Tears Ricochet Lyrics
We gather here, we line up, weepin' in a sunlit room
And if I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes, too
Even on my worst day, did I deserve, babe
All the hell you gave me?
'Cause I loved you, I swear I loved you
'Til my dying day
I didn't have it in myself to go with grace
And you're the hero flying around, saving face
And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?
Cursing my name, wishing I stayed
Look at how my tears ricochet
We gather stones, never knowing what they'll mean
Some to throw, some to make a diamond ring
You know I didn't want to have to haunt you
But what a ghostly scene
You wear the same jewels that I gave you
As you bury me
I didn't have it in myself to go with grace
'Cause when I'd fight, you used to tell me I was brave
And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?
Cursing my name, wishing I stayed
Look at how my tears ricochet
And I can go anywhere I want
Anywhere I want, just not home
And you can aim for my heart, go for blood
But you would still miss me in your bones
And I still talk to you (When I'm screaming at the sky)
And when you can't sleep at night (You hear my stolen lullabies)
I didn't have it in myself to go with grace
And so the battleships will sink beneath the waves
You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same
Cursing my name, wishing I stayed
You turned into your worst fears
And you're tossing out blame, drunk on this pain
Crossing out the good years
And you're cursing my name, wishing I stayed
Look at how my tears ricochet
And if I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes, too
Even on my worst day, did I deserve, babe
All the hell you gave me?
'Cause I loved you, I swear I loved you
'Til my dying day
And you're the hero flying around, saving face
And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?
Cursing my name, wishing I stayed
Look at how my tears ricochet
Some to throw, some to make a diamond ring
You know I didn't want to have to haunt you
But what a ghostly scene
You wear the same jewels that I gave you

Cursing my name, wishing I stayed

The fifth track of Taylor's new album 'Folklore' was written by Taylor Swift. Produced by Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift. It was recorded by Laura Sisk at the Kitty Committee Studio (Los Angeles, CA), Jack Antonoff at Rough Customer Studio (Brooklyn, NY) and Laura Sisk and Jack Antonoff at Electric Lady Studios (New York, NY) and Conway Recording (Los Angeles, CA). Mixed by Serban Ghenea at Mixstar Studios (Virginia Beach, VA). Mastered by Randy Merrill at Sterling Sound (New York, NY). The track was released on July 24, 2020.
What the artist means On my tears ricochet off Folklore via a haunting beat Taylor starts quite softly. She is a master at painting pictures that leave listener's heads spinning and she has further enhanced that reputation on this album thus far. On this track she lets the beat build and talks about how her tears ricochet. She speaks from the perspective of hunter as she chases after an ex-lover that buried her while wearing the jewels she gave him. She's so mature on this track and by the time the beat drops she has morphed into an artful crooner of a hyper emotional power ballad. She says she didn't have it in herself to go in grace and she chooses to go after her ex-lover with a vengeance. I think this is metaphorical but you cannot be so sure with Taylor Swift.
What the song means to me The song is as haunting as anything in her wide catalogue of top tier breakup anthems and power ballads. It has a perfect beat that lets her glide into the ex-lover’s room and take revenge for all the sordid times shared between the two of them. The song is mature, introspective, heady and proper. It reminds me that there's nothing this woman can't do and it makes me want to reevaluate my toxic tendencies. I will give this song a rating of 8/10.
This was the first song Swift wrote for the album. She also wrote the song alone. This the most heartfelt ballad on the album. “my tears ricochet” opens only with haunting chords, and Swift’s simple voice rings true throughout the song. Swift sings “And if I’m dead to you, why are you at the wake?”. This simple lyric shows the powerful nature of the song. The loss, the sadness, and the heartbreak are palpable in this song. With her own “death” she was hoping to be free, but the person she left is still there looking for her waiting. Swift wonders how that can be and what right her love has after leaving her.
