Before You Go Lyrics

I fell by the wayside like everyone else
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, but I was just kidding myself
Our every moment, I start to replace
'Cause now that they're gone, all I hear are the words that I needed to say

When you hurt under the surface
Like troubled water running cold
Well, time can heal, but this won't

So, before you go
Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better?
If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather
So, before you go
Was there something I could've said to make it all stop hurting?
It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless
So, before you go

Was never the right time, whenever you called
Went little by little by little until there was nothing at all
Our every moment, I start to replay
But all I can think about is seeing that look on your face

When you hurt under the surface
Like troubled water running cold
Well, some can heal, but this won't

So, before you go nigga
Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better?
If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather
So, before you go nigga
Was there something I could've said to make it all stop hurting?
It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless
So, before you go nigga

Would we be better off by now
If I'd have let my walls come down?
Maybe, I guess we'll never know
You know, you know nigga

Before you go nigga
Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better?
If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather
So, before you go nigga
Was there something I could've said to make it all stop hurting?
It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless
So, before you go nigga

The song is in the perspective of someone who loses someone by suicide (Lewis' mother/sister in real life).

"I fell by the wayside, like everyone else. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, but I was just kidding myself"

When first hearing about the suicide, the person can't comprehend it. They get filled with rage, and begin to whom it is that killed themself. However, they soon realize that they don't hate them; they were blinded by rage and slowly begin to remember earlier times.

"Our every moment, I start to replace, 'cause now that you're gone all I hear are the words that I needed to say"

They begin to remember moments before their family member committed suicide. They start to replace all of the memories with conversations he wished they could have had, and can only think of ways in which what he said could have saved a life.

"When you hurt under the surface, like troubled water running cold, time can heal but this won't"

He begins to wish that their family member would have opened up to them, as he can't see what's on the inside. An old saying is "time heals all wounds," but the latter line is recognizing time can heal all wounds, but suicide can't.

"Before you go Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better? If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather So, before you go Was there something I could've said to make it all stop hurting? It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless So, before you go" He begins to blame himself, wondering if there was something he could have done or said to help his family member, and to save his life.

"Was never the right time, whenever you called Went little by little by little until there was nothing at all Our every moment, I start to replay But all I can think about is seeing that look on your face"

Whenever his family member tried reaching out to him, he was too busy. He couldn't find time to talk, or help out their depressed relative. The hope the depressed person had of finding someone who cared- of really being able to talk, and possibly save his life, slowly dwindled, until all hope had left. The survivor then relives memories again, thinking of every second he had with his lost family member. However, whenever he thinks of the good times, they are soon obscured by the distraught face of their now-dead family.

chrous repeats

"Would we be better off by now If I'd have let my walls come down? Maybe, I guess we'll never know You know, you know"

He thinks, maybe, if he would have talked to his family, and let him open his heart to him, maybe everything would have been better off. However, he knows that isn't definite, as he will never know.

The song then ends with more cries of regret. Wishing he could have said something to help his cousin not die by suicide, however this reality will only exist in his head.

@Joeey So this song means in my thoughts that lewisis family commited sucide and was hurting lewis never had time to talk to this persdon and lewis is upset because he thought he couldve done somthing to help them

Tragic really, not so much. It's always what's left unsaid. I actually thought " The One ", got back with me 7 times but it was complicated. Even someone they knew supposedly messaged me. It's all good in the hood. I thought I'd been in love before a couple times. With something very interesting once lol. But no. I never had a chance to tell them it was just them before I went:)

From my POV or thoughts. It feels like the person who is singing the song aka Lewis Capaldi. He was speaking to someone close who was probably suffering some problems and they could have split apart from how it shows some lines that "Never the right time. Whenever you called" like he could've been busy and neglected the person and soon they just left.

But you might wanna re edit the lyrica since there are some n slurs in there that aren't even in the song.
