To me, the key to this song has always been "the way you kissed me when you lost another valentine". The protagonist either kissed or had some kind of romantic encounter with someone who was on the rebound. It was something that was meaningful, perhaps, to him, but he recognizes that it\'s nothing meant to last. So, "go sail the seven seas", and the roses and sun, etc. means that it\'s not a romantic thing.
