the song is about the german attack on Osowiec Fortress in ww1. In the attack the germans used clorine gas on the fortress to kill its russian defenders. After the attack 7000 russian soldiers covered in blood and other things i wont type, started charging at the german lines causing the germans to retreat calling the enemy (dead men) as they should have all been died. not many of them survived.
