Turn Me Down Lyrics

Learner driver, going 80 k's
Trying to get to Melbourne
It's probably gonna take two days
Lover beside you, gripping the door
Oh, you know why he is nervous
You have crashed before

It's a lot to ask of you
To believe in me
When I can't even promise
I'd do things differently next time

Pulled off the highway
Found a place to sit
He took my hand, said I see a bright future
I'm just not sure that you're in it

It's a lot to ask of me
To believe in you
When I don't know if you'll ever love me
The way I want you to

So please just turn me down
Oh please just turn me down
Why won't you turn me down?
Oh please just turn me down
Why won't you turn me down?
Oh please just turn me down
Why won't you turn me down?
Why won't you turn me down?

Don't look at me
Look at the centre line
Maybe I'll see you
In a supermarket sometime

I'm not an expert, but this song is so good its a shame no one is talking about it so I'll start.

She's just rather timidly driving along at 40mph. She's not too sure of herself, her driving or her friend and she's "crashed" before, probably in cars and relationships so she meekly begs him to turn her down. She doesn't want to go through the pain of thinking she's in a loving relationship only to find out its something else. Her begging tone changes to accusational as she repeatedly insists that he turn her down. She's accusing him of being too cowardly to have a real relationship so just turn her down already. She's angry and mocking as she continues. Is she demanding he turn her down or daring him? She's in control of the car. Is she nuts?

When she says, "are you nervous?" in the beginning at first I thought she was asking him. Is she asking herself because then she says she's crashed before.

She does this weird grammar thing again a little further along when the song says, "I see a bright future I'm just not sure that you're in it"

She's not sure she's in the bright future or she's not sure he's not in it? Or does she want us to be confused? I think she either sucks at grammar or she wants us to think that both these people are thinking the same thing. They both see a bright future, but the other person in the car isn't in it.

Is that him saying,

"Don't look at me Look at the centre line Maybe I'll see you In the supermarket sometime"

If that's him speaking, he's really cold. I guess its over, but boy that was unnecessarily brutal. If she's talking to herself, then dude, I guess its over.
