How Simple Lyrics
I suppose one, one, one who hasn't seen
The earlier frames
Could say I am advancing up this road
I am advancing
Pale as a banshee sun
Think I should stop checking myself out
In the windows of cars
When I could see my future in her pictures of relatives
How simple my heart can be
How simple my heart can be
Frightens me
Don't worry we will both find out
Just not together
Don't worry we will both find out
Just not together
Your hand was on me
It seemed like you were being sweet
Here I am again
At the reserve to drink
It's not that I thought
Like all of a sudden you change
We were covered in each other's snot
In my childhood bed
Well it seemed like we were being sweet
Her pictures of relatives
How simple my heart can be

Frightens me
Don't worry we will both find out

I'm surprised at the lack of comments - such a great song and the jam at the end is transcendent.
Most of the song is pretty clear, it's a teenage couple breaking up. I'm more confused about the "pictures of relatives" line. Is it that she comes from a broken/divorced home and feels that she'll end up that way, also?
@arithmetik I´m not sure if it´s about teenagers, but I don´t know. The part with the "pictures of relatives" could mean, that the singer might have realized after their breakup, that they could have been part oft the family of their ex and still part of her, if they didn´t break up (when I could see my future...), which would mean that they might be questioning if the breakup was a good idea.

well, in the first verse it seems like they´re not really happy about the breakup. others might view it as something good, but the singer doesn´t seem sure about it.
maybe the "future in her picture of relatives" could mean, that only after the breakup they realized, that they could have been part of their exes family. Maybe - of course just a theory - when Quinlan sings "Don´t worry, we will both find out, just not together", they don´t (only) try to comfort their ex, but also themself.
long story short, I think this song might be about a breakup, that the singer doesn´t feel so sure about, that might not have been a good idea.
