I don't want to be a shadow

So he's gone now
Now he's blown away
Didn't mean it, did he?
Losing all your games
All that yes I do time
When the lights go down

And it's time to move
And time to change
Time to use
And time to pay
Yes I do time
When the lights go down

I don't want to be a shadow
I don't mean I'm gonna follow
I'm not lost or stuck in sorrow
I don't want to be a shadow

I don't want to tell you
When you run around
I just want to be there
When the night comes down
When it's yes I do time
When the lights go down

And it's time to move
And time to change
Time to use
And time to pay
Yes I do time
When the lights go down

I don't want to be a shadow

I don't want to be a shadow
I don't mean I'm gonna follow
I'm not lost or stuck in sorrow
I don't want to be a shadow
I don't want to be a shadow
I don't mean I'm gonna follow
I'm not lost or stuck in sorrow
I don't want to be a shadow

Sounds like some dude is pointing out to his gal pal that the guy she was stuck on just bailed and that she should choose him -- but be realistic. He doesn't want to be stuck in a relationship where he's her "shadow" -- he isn't "going to follow" her into a pointless relationship. He will, however, be there "when the lights go down." The "lalala " and "uhhhh" moaning in the end seems like a sarcastic jab at idiot sex sounds. Hilarious song in its own cynical way.
