Leave the City Lyrics

I'm tired
Of tending to this fire
I've used up all I've collected
I have singed my hands
It's glowing
Embers barely showing
Proof of life in the shadows
Dancing on my plans

They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over

The burning
Is so low it's concerning
'Cause they know that when it goes out
It's a glorious gone
It's only
Time before they show me
Why no one ever comes back
With details from beyond

They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know
They know that it's almost over
They know
They know that it's almost over
They know
They know
They know

In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive

They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know
They know

Last year
I needed change of pace
Couldn't take the pace of change
Moving hastily
But this year
Though I'm far from home
In TRENCH I'm not alone
These faces facing me

They know
They know
What I mean

This song is about giving up. He's been running from Nico and the Niners for some time, and it's starting to beat down on him. The bridge even says, "They know that it's almost over." This means that Nico and the Niners are already figuring that he'll come to them anyway. The actual chorus, "In time I will leave the city. For now I will stay alive." What it says is he's going to escape soon, but for the moment in time he's in, he's going to stay where he is until he gets out, that is, IF he gets out. Then there's the final verse. "Last year I needed a change of pace. I couldn't take the pace of change moving hastily. But this year, though I'm far from home, in TRENCH I'm not alone: these faces facing me." The last verse states that he wants to change his pace because he couldn't take change's pace. He also says that even if he's far from his living place, he's not alone because of the others that are there, who could be either the others trying to escape with him, or Nico and the Niners watching him try to escape from TRENCH. The story behind it is that his multiple tries to escape TRENCH have worn him down so he's thinking about giving into the people he's doing his damnedest to avoid.

I've been listening to this song since it came out but just recently I've felt more connected to the lyrics and I decided to interpret it in my own words

this song is essentially about suicide... here's why

I'm tired Of tending to this fire he's tired of tending to the fire which is a metaphor for life itself

They know that it's almost They know that it's almost over I feel like this is him saying that the people around him know that its almost over for him and I felt the same where my friends and loved ones know that I'm almost done

The burning Is so low it's concerning this is referring to how his fire aka his life is burning so low as there's not much left

'Cause they know that when it goes out It's a glorious gone

this is referring to how when his fire goes out and he passes on that it's simply a glorious gone that yeah he lived a good life but it's gone now so oh well

It's only time before they show me Why no one ever comes back With details from beyond

this means how no one knows what happens after death and yes its very very rare that someone comes back to life after they passed but they don't have any details of what to come

In time, I will leave the city For now, I will stay alive this is pretty self-explanatory the city is a metaphor for passing away and he's basically saying "in time I will die but for now, I will stay alive"

Last year I needed change of pace Couldn't take the pace of change Moving hastily this is him saying that he needed something to change but he couldn't handle things changing especially so quickly

But this year Though I'm far from home In TRENCH I'm not alone These faces facing me

this is him saying how trench saved him and now he's not alone and in my eyes and personal experiences trench for me is my friends and people who loved me

the part about "they know it's almost over" is probably referring to fallen angels. S is about to hit the fan and you should leave the city, it's gonna get crazy.
