Great Unknown Lyrics

Does anybody see beyond the trees?
Does anybody get across the sea?
I was traveling to where I can't recall
I can't get back to you now

When everybody filled me up with pride
I was only looking for a place to hide
I am no statue a monument to raise
But I try my best these days

Funny how time doesn't mind
Who we keep and who we bear to leave behind
So into this great unknown
I will wander on my own

Will I ever stop imagining?
What if I have done things differently
And will you find it a corner in your heart
For me long after we part
Long after we part

Funny how time doesn't care
Who we love and who we wish we could repair
So into this great unknown
I will wander on my own

Does anybody see beyond the trees?
Does anybody get across the sea?
I was traveling to where I can't recall
I can't get back to you now
Get back to you now

Cover art for Great Unknown lyrics by William Ryan Key

This song is reflecting upon a past life. The song title "Great Uknown", identifies that we do know what the next phase of life will bring. "I was traveling to where I can't recall...I can't get back to you now", shows the end of a relationship, and there is no way to go back to the past and see the other significant person again. The next stanza identifies no matter how successful people view the person thinking these thoughts, he/she does not view themselves in the same light. "Funny how time doesn't mind...Who we keep and who we bear to leave behind", explains how time is unpredictable, in telling us how we will feel about the people around us. Not everyone sticks around in the long run, and we never are able to tell who will stick with us until the end. "Will I ever stop imagining? ...What if I have done things differently...And will you find it a corner in your heart", portrays that he/she is contemplating what would have happened if an action would change the preceding events differently...but he/she addresses in the end that what has been done can never be changed, but wonders if the other person still can carry a piece of them. "I will wander on my own", addresses this person is going to move forward with life, but wonder all these unique aspects of life.
