Given the last line and the album title "Family" this song appears to be about the dreams and aspirations a father has for their child (grown adult now). The narrator is realising all that their father wanted for them (and perhaps hasn't been able to give them ... or they haven't lived up to that expectation).
The "one day" lines may be suggesting that they are slowing getting towards their father's dream for them ... or otherwise talking to their dad and saying look at the small everyday achievements rather than the idealistic big dream you had for them.
